Exclusive: Chanel Beauty Launches 'No.1' Collection and It's Already Iconic

Paris is always (and forever) a good idea. Duh! BUT it’s an even doper idea when Chanel decides to fly you there (along with a handful of other top editors and a few fab influencers) to celebrate the launch of the brand’s exciting new beauty collection. Clearly this wasn’t just to unveil a new volumizing mascara or addictive eau de parfum. This Parisian rendezvous was a sneak peak at what the luxury house is deeming their biggest beauty launch since Chanel No.5 (you know, the ionic fragrance that just turned 100 years old). Talk about great expectations. But tbh, it lives up to the hype.

Enter, N° 1 de CHANEL.

Yup, number 1. They’re back to square one with a whole new perspective. And, of course, a new set of products to obsess over. That press trip to Paris was back in November, since then I’ve been sworn to secrecy…until NOW! Here’s what you need to know…

What the heck Is it?

It’s Chanel’s first-ever collection of products that spans across all it’s beauty categories: skincare, fragrance and makeup. The products are also clean, sustainable, and wait for it…crafted to evoke positive emotions.

“The most exciting thing for me is the holistic approach we have developed in this range, because our ambition was to be able to bring visual and physical benefits — but was also benefits to your spirit,” Nathalie Volpe, Chanel’s International Innovation Research and Development VPL told Cosmo.

Translation: Chanel isn’t just interested in making sure we look and smell good, the brand is aiming to get our minds right too. Sure, it might sound like a lot of woo-woo — but they’ve got the science to back it up.

Let’s face it, beauty and happiness go hand-in-hand. It’s the joy of discovering a holy grail red lipstick, a fab serum that clears up your hyperpigmentation, or an ultra rich body butter that keeps your skin classy not ashy. This pandemic has taught us a lot, including that our beauty regimens aren’t just about vanity– they are also pure, unadulterated self-care. Chanel is harnessing that need for wellness in this new collection — and we’re 100% here for it.

Why is it so special?

In total there are 9 items in the N° 1 de CHANEL line— including a powder-to-foam cleanser, a serum-in-mist, a skin-perfecting foundation, lip & cheek balms, and a fragrance mist— ranging in price from $45 to $160. The collection is launching exclusively on Chanel.com and Ulta.com. And we can’t overlook the fact that this is the first time we’ve ever seen a Chanel beauty product dressed up in a ravishing red hue. Trés chic!

Beyond the line’s exciting range and stunning good looks, its also dedicated to sustainability. The collection is totally eco-designed.

That’s not all, folks. One of the must-have products IMO, The Revitalizing Cream ($110), comes in a refillable jar. We’ve definitely noticed more companies launching refillables, so it’s nice to see the trend continuing — and especially in the luxury space.

Speaking of luxury, the stuff inside the oh-so-eco-friendly packaging will have you saying “Ooooo la la!” In true Chanel fashion the product formulations are exceptional. And by now you may have figured out that the hero ingredient is the red camellia flower. What you need to know about the red camellia is that it’s clutch when it comes to taking your anti-aging skincare to the next level.

In short, the red camilla extract targets a very important phase — aka the first phase— of senescence. What’s senescence, you ask? It’s biological aging. Cue the wrinkles. Stress, the sun’s UV rays and environmental pollutants are all wreaking havoc on our skin’s cells — which causes early senescence/aging. Red camilla extract helps to revitalize skin by eliminating the old cells and promoting cellular turnover. The result is a complexion that looks *chef’s kiss* good.

Wait, there’s more…

It took five years to create this collection, because Chanel wanted to be thoughtful about every aspect — especially that emotional piece. The brand actually has a neuroscience laboratory where it studies how products make consumers feel. They aren’t playing around! For example, their studies have found that the N° 1 de CHANEL Revitalizing Serum produced 94% positive emotion amongst its test subjects. Look, I don’t know about you but I’ll take three bottles of that!

While in Paris I got to learn firsthand the deep level of research Chanel conducts when it comes to the connection between sensorial experience and emotion. It’s real. It’s hella interesting. And it’s the type of beauty we all need/deserve right now. Amiright?

My honest review of N°1 de CHANEL

Since getting my hands on a few of these products back in November, I’ve been consistently using the Red Camellia Revitalizing Serum ($120) and the Red Camellia Revitalizing Cream ($110). Both are rockstars in their different ways. Let me explain…

Right off the bat, I was obsessed with the cream– which I use both morning and night. It’s thick, creamy and down to get my face looking damn near flawless. Meaning, masterfully hydrated…evenly toned…and supremely smooth. There’s a slight fragrance to the formulation, which normally I would avoid. However, it’s so soft and lovely– and has become a comforting scent as I fall to sleep at night. Ultimately, the biggest change I’ve seen since using the cream is my skin’s texture — it’s smooth and amazingly supple.

When it comes to the serum, I’ve got one word: Legit. I consider myself a tough critic when it comes to serums. I mean, it’s my job! I’ve tried them all — and there are very few that rise to the occasion. The reason I’m particularly smitten with this one is that it manages to be potent and effective without irritating the hell out of my skin. It’s also perfect for layering. There’s no annoying tacky finish left behind, so it’s a breeze adding my SPF and the Revitalizing cream on top if it. After six weeks of use I’ve really started to notice that my skin is firmer and less prone to breaking out.

I’m definitely looking forward to trying the rest of the collection (adding the fragrance mist and powder-to-foam cleanser to my cart ASAP)– but in the meantime, I’m giving these two standout products a 10/10 and a resounding “Yessss!”

Happy skin. Happy Julee. Yeah, I’d say they nailed it.
