Scarlette Douglas, who presents A Place In The Sun on Channel 4, has been a regular fixture on the property show since 2015. The small-screen star has since dished on her savvy expertise at the start of her career, which turned out to be extremely lucrative for the presenter.
The 32-year-old was offered a part in a Sure deodorant advert, expecting to be paid £500.
Three years ago, the small-screen star landed a small role in the advertisement which lasted “two seconds”.
The Channel 4 presenter revealed that the company then decided against airing the commercial.
Scarlette explained: “The payment was £500 for one day of filming.
“I was told I would also get another £3,000 if the advert was broadcast in the first few months after filming.”
However, six months later the company “decided to not show [the advert] at all”, so Scarlette’s agent renegotiated the initial fee and she was instead paid £14,000.
“Then, another six months later, they wanted to run [the advert] again and my agent negotiated another £30,000,” Scarlette continued to This is Money.
She added: “In total, I was paid almost £45,000. I still cannot believe I earned that much for a day’s work. I used it to put down a deposit on a house.”
It turned out to be a triumphant financial period for Scarlette, who made over £100,000 in 2015 and began presenting A Place In The Sun.
The TV star, who began her career in the performing arts industry, previously credited her eldest brother and former footballer Stuart Douglas, who encouraged her to invest in property.
The Channel 4 presenter said her sibling warned her to think about retirement funds.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Scarlette said: “It was my brother that got me involved [in property] in the first place.

“When I was 24 or 25 he pretty much said, ‘You need to think about your pension.'”
She continued: “I did musical theatre – I was a singer and dancer – but I’d never taken out a pension.
“I should’ve taken out an equity pension but I never did.
“So he was the one that said, ‘Look, I’m going to help you and show you the ropes of property development and how you can make money by flipping properties and renting properties.'”
From her experience buying property, Scarlette later secured a role in A Place In The Sun.
She has appeared in a vast array of stage performances including The X Factor West End musical, before making the switch to television presenting.
Scarlette also took part in Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and joined the duo as a dancer on their UK arena tour.
A Place In The Sun airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 3pm.
