Alexander Ludwig, 29, is a familiar face on screen having appeared for several years as Bjorn Ironside in Vikings as well as his formidable turn in The Hunger Games. However, now the star has exclusively opened up to Express.co.uk about his latest career change, which sees him swapping swords for country music.

Ludwig has admitted how when he first shared the news of his music with fans, many were left shocked.

He explained: “One hundred per cent I would say people were kind of shocked and blown away by it.

“Everything I had heard is that people would say, ‘I can’t believe that this is real!’

“People were making jokes about it in a positive light, you know, ‘I can’t believe Bjorn Ironside is singing country music and I love this!’”

However, despite their initial shock, the actor explained he was thrilled by the support they offered him.

Ludwig released his new EP officially on May 4 and it features five songs in total.

Among the hits on the self-titled record are Love Today, Sunset Town and Summer Crazy.

And the star is already racking up fans with millions of streams on Spotify alone.

This all comes after the huge success of his first song Let Me Be Your Whiskey back in 2020.

Ludwig also opened up about how country music has always been a big part of his life as he grew up listening to it in Canada.

Therefore, he explained how thrilled he was when fans of country music loved his record.

He continued: “I’m so grateful that fans of my other work love this music but the most important thing to me was that people who really love and respect country music the way I do, I really wanted them to see this for what it was.

“And the one note I kept hearing about was like, ‘Man, I am so thankful that you are doing country music, not pop disguised as something else or anything like that’.

“And that was something that I was so happy to hear because when I got to Nashville, I felt some people were trying to push me in other directions.”

The actor has spent the last few years going to Nashville, Tennessee to try and work out how to write country music as well as perfecting his performance skills.

Here, he met Jason Aldean’s band members Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy who helped him write his LP.

Ludwig explained: “We all went with the same mindset, we are not chasing trends.

“This is our lane and I want to live in this, as long as I can and as long as people will have me.

“And I feel like that was such a great thing to hear from people to say that they recognise that.

“They were like, ‘No I love that this is country music, you know?’”

Alexander Ludwig’s self-titled EP is available to listen to now.
