We all know her as Coronation Street’s Sinead Tinker, but Katie McGlynn recently swapped soaps to take on a new role as Becky – Diane Hutchinson’s new best mate – in Hollyoaks.
The 27 year old actress has been buddying up with some of her new cast mates including Nick Pickard – who Katie said is a “lovely guy” – and Alex Fletcher. She also opened up about her enduring friendship with former Corrie co-star, Rob Mallard.
Katie recently posted a picture of the pair dressed as hippies on her Instagram with the caption: “Sinead and Daniel back together once again.” Rob played Katie’s on-screen husband, Daniel Osbourne, in the soap.

When asked about the funky snap, Katie opened up about the pair’s close bond. “We went on a getaway for our friend’s birthday and just decided to dress up as hippies!” she explained.
We asked Katie if she and Rob were still super close and she confirmed, detailing how the pair kept an eye on one another through lockdown with regular phone calls.
“Rob and I are really good friends. Even through lockdown when we couldn't meet up we called each other a lot to check up on each other. We will always have a bond because of what we did.”
She added: “We just know we’re gonna be friends for life which is nice.”
Katie went on to reveal another lasting connection from her days on Waterloo Road. The actress was a series regular on popular school drama between 2011 and 2013 when she played Jodie Allen – aka “Scout.”
It was there that she met Shane O’Meara who played Connor Mulgrew – Laurie Brett’s on-screen son in the show. Katie told us that the pair had reconnected not too long ago.
She said: “I recently got back in touch with a friend, Shane, from Waterloo Road. We used to be really good friends when we filmed in Scotland. It’s weird how things come back around again.”
As it turns out, Shane was at the same hippy-themed party as Katie and Rob. Katie put up a picture of the pair and captioned it with an emotional tribute to their rediscovered friendship.
She wrote: “Friends who are meant to be in your life will always gravitate back towards you…no matter how far they wander.”
It's fair to say that the soap star has built lasting connections in the industry. She also listed Ali Mardell and Lisa George when we asked who she was still in touch with from Weatherfield.
In regards to her new role in Hollyoaks, Katie admitted she was “nervous” about joining, but that the storyline was “amazing.”
Watch Katie in Hollyoaks from Tuesday 6 July on Channel 4.
