Dame Deborah James final Instagram photo as star dies following cancer battle

Deborah James sadly passed away on Tuesday 28 June at the age of 40 after her five year battle with bowel cancer.

The journalist, who leaves behind her husband Sebastien and children Eloise, 12, and Hugo, 14, courageously fought through her diagnosis by bringing awareness and crushing taboos.

Having raised over £6million with her bowel cancer fundraiser back in May, it's no surprise that the last photo Deborah took on her Instagram page was of her celebrating her In The Style clothing collection, which also raised over £1m for Cancer Research UK.

In the snap, Deborah can be seen raising her finger to the sky, along with In The Style founder Adam Frisby and his partner Jamie Corbett as they hold onto s giant cheque for £1m.

Deborah's caption read: "WOW!! ONE MILLION POUNDS. I am honestly so overwhelmed we, through @inthestyle raised over £1,000,000 for @bowelbabefund for @cr_uk!

"All from sales of the ITS x Dame Deborah James collection and ‘Rebellious Hope’ T-shirts that I designed with @inthestyle (One million, that’s just crazy).

"I got a lovely little visit yesterday from the @inthestyle founder @fr15by and his partner @thejamiecorbett who brought this lovely cheque and we have had a little toast to celebrate it. I just can’t believe it!"

She added: "What’s funny is when @inthestyle released the first t-shirt we both said how incredible £50k raised would be so for me to still be here and see it’s over £1mil is just so incredible!

"‘Rebellious Hope’ is what has got me through the last few years and it’s what is keeping me going now! Seeing all your messages, tags and support has just been the best and I am so grateful that we have been able to do this together! Thank you all."

Throughout her battle, Deborah has used her social media page to showcase her journey with bowel cancer.

The mother of two was also awarded with a Damehood in May for her campaign and just recently she celebrated bowel cancer symptoms being put on the packaging of toilet paper brand, Andrex.

This comes after the toilet paper partnered with Bowel Cancer UK.

Deborah was a host of the BBC podcast You, Me and the Big C, where she would discuss topics relating to cancer, alongside the late Rachael Bland and Lauren Mahon.
