Gloria Hunniford became the latest celebrity to exit The Masked Singer 2022. The Loose Women panel member was unveiled as Snow Leopard in Sunday’s episode of the ITV series.

The 81-year-old took to the stage and belted out Shirley Bassey’s iconic hit Big Spender but it wasn’t enough to keep her in the competition.

The veteran TV presenter is “thrilled” to have taken part in the show but has now revealed her family were hesitant about her debut.

The on-screen star explained that her son in particular was unsure if she would be able to “cope”.

In a new interview, Gloria has confirmed that she would happily relieve the experience – but feels a lot of people were surprised she took part due to her age.

The broadcaster said: “One of my sons said to me, ‘Are you sure you’re going to be able to cope with it because it’s a big show?’

“So I thought, ‘Well, I’d really quite like to do it because I’ve always enjoyed it before’ and I find it quite intriguing trying to guess and failing and all that, so I immediately said yes.”

Gloria added: “But I think some of my family wondered would I be able to deal with it all because it’s quite something.”

The presenter also revealed that in addition to her vocal lessons, she had been trained to disguise her Irish accent when she was singing and talking to The Masked Singer judges.

The TV star added that she had hoped to stay longer in the competition but suggested that it may have been difficult.

She explained that the rehearsal schedule of getting home late after recording the show and having to return early the next day to learn a new song would have been quite strenuous.

“So in some respects, in my stage of life, I was quite happy and I got the best out of everything,” she added.

During the latest episode of the singing competition, the second set of six contestants were split into three face offs, with Traffic Cone battling against Rockhopper, Poodle singing against Snow Leopard and Panda going up against Bagpipes.

But it was Snow Leopard who was unveiled after Jonathan Ross correctly guessed it was Gloria behind the mask.

After a very telling James Bond clue, fans were sure it might be her, while other clues included: “Just like cats, I’m not a fan of water.”

This turned out to be a reference to her not being able to swim.

Speaking after being unveiled Gloria said: “You know Jonathon Ross next time I get you behind a microphone watch out! Because you’re too clever!

“I started to sing when I was seven, it was pre-TV days. I was making a few records but I haven’t sung on stage for 27 years.”

She added: “I genuinely love this programme. I couldn’t believe it when I was asked to take part!”

When asked if she had watched the show before in her exit interview, Gloria said: “I have indeed. I have watched both series because I was very intrigued as it has many layers as a programme.”

The Masked Singer returns Saturday on ITV at 7pm.
