Hairy Bikers star Dave Myers has said he is jealous of the life he had before being diagnosed with cancer which prompted him to take a step back from his work commitments. The 65-year-old said chemotherapy had left him unable to recognise himself when he watches old episodes of their cooking show.

He said: “I think about the past with huge, great jealousy and affection.

“Watching some of our old episodes on telly when I’m ill, I don’t look like myself.

“And I look at myself there with my best mate, thinking, you know… I remember I said to [my wife] Lil, ‘That used to be me’.

“’No,’ she said. ‘That is you’,” he recalled in an interview with The Guardian.

At the the of the interview in October, Dave was 14 sessions into a course of chemotherapy and had six to go.

Days later while talking to BBC Radio Cumbria, he said the process was working.

“All the numbers are in the right direction, my hair’s growing back, my beard’s coming back, so it’s a long job.”

While trying to remain positive through his battle, Dave said there had been times he would “just curl up and cry”.

“I’m still not out of the woods but generally feeling much better, and life will never be the same again,” he added.

The pair last posted on social media on October 22 to promote their new book The Hairy Bikers Brilliant Bakes. has contacted a representative for Dave for comment.

While this may be a weird time for him following 30 years together, Si said Dave’s absence didn’t make him feel less of a Hairy Biker.

And despite their distance at the moment, this hasn’t stopped him from being Dave’s support.

The latter revealed how Si had accompanied him to hospital appointments and had also cooked him meals.

One thing he isn’t keen on doing however is shaving his hair off like Dave.

He added to the publication: “Er, no. I mean, if he’d asked us, I probably would have.”

Dave said he needn’t to worry however as his hair was finally growing back.

The chef added: “My little fuzzy hair’s coming back now.

“It’s all on numbers. And the numbers are going the right way. So it encourages you to carry on.”
