Hocus Pocus 3 is officially happening at Disney

Halloween just keeps on getting better and better. Last year, fans of the iconic film Hocus Focus were treated to a second offering, almost 30 years after the release of the first movie.

Starring the original three Sanderson sister witches – Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker), Winifred (Bette Midler) and Mary (Kathy Najimy), the film followed two young women as they accidentally brought back the sisters to modern day Salem.

However, Hocus Pocus fans are set for an even bigger surprise this week, after it was officially announced that a third film is on the way.

It comes as Disney boss Sean Bailey confirmed the sequel during an interview with The New York Times

“Yes, Hocus Pocus 3 is happening,” he teased.

Right now – other than that it’s been given the greenlight – not much else is known about the third film. Including whether Sarah, Bette and Kathy have been cast again, or what the potential storyline would be.

But before the news of Hocus Pocus 3 was actually made known, the three original actors actually spoke about a possibility of a third film.

Last year, while doing promo for the latest movie, the actors chatted to Entertainment Weekly about whether they thought the Sanderson sisters could ever be seen on screen again.

Interestingly, Bette Midler opened up about how she’d always wanted to make a sequel. The 77 year old revealed that if she was offered one, she always hoped it would be for her 1996 film, The First Wives Club.

While “we never got that,” she did chat all things Hocus Pocus.

“After 30 years with no sequel to Hocus Pocus, I've always been envious of people who get to do their favourite character more than once. The fact that we got to do this finally, after 30 years of promoting the idea, I'm glad we got to do it. I'd love to have a franchise – especially a character I love playing.”

She then added that she would sign on if there was a third one, which gives us high hopes that Winifred will be back for round three of the fantasy franchise.

In terms of SJP, who is currently preparing for the imminent second season of And Just Like That and Kathy Najimy, it’s unclear as to whether they’d reprise their roles.

This comes after Sarah revealed that Kathy suggested the third movie should be animated, adding that they thought it would be a cool and smart idea.

But now we know Hocus Pocus 3 is in the works, here’s hoping we get to see Sarah, Winifred and Mary all together again for at least one last time!
