Kate Garraway was unable to spend her and husband Derek Draper’s wedding anniversary together as he remains in hospital.

The 53-year-old Good Morning Britain host revealed her heartbreak at being unable to see Derek, also 53, on their special day.

The mum-of-two was picture running errands on their 15th wedding anniversary wearing a white jacket and jeans, teamed with white boots.

Kate has now revealed that she is planning to see Derek today, Friday, and will read him all of the cards that he has written to her over the years.

Speaking on GMB on Friday morning, I’m A Celeb star Kate said: “We had him on Facetime, my mum and dad were on childcare duties overnight while I'm here and we and the children raised a glass and said 'Happy Anniversary'.

"I am going to see him today, I have got a card to take in to read to him.

"I'm maybe going to go through all the cards he's written to me on our anniversary. He was a prolific card writer for birthdays and things, he would always remember.

"And when I say 'was', it's not like he's not still here -he's still here and hopefully he'll do it again. When you look back at the stack [of cards] it makes you think."

Her co-host Ben Shephard added: “It's what he took pride in [doing].”

Kate replied: “Exactly. So it will be strange reading to him because it would always be 'love you always, Kate' kind of thing but this time I have made more of an effort."

Derek was hospitalised and put in a coma earlier this year after he contracted coronavirus.

He is now free of coronavirus but remains in hospital as he recovers from the extensive damage the virus has caused.

Kate recently revealed Derek has lost eight stone in the six months since he's been in hospital.

She told YOU magazine at the weekend: "When I finally got to FaceTime him, seeing him unconscious was a big shock.

"He's lost nearly eight stone in weight, a lot of it muscle throughout his body. I see him quite infrequently, not as often as I'd wish."

Kate heartbreakingly added: "We hope and believe he will come out of it, but we just don’t know.

"The heart of the family has been ripped out and we don’t know if we will ever get it back.

"If they say this has improved today you don’t feel the euphoria you’d like because you have this feeling the next day something else will have gone wrong.

“At first it was all about Derek’s lungs, but then his kidneys started failing and he was on dialysis. Now they've realised Covid can affect every cell of the body."
