Kim Kardashian Slammed as Marilyn Monroe Dress She Wore to Met Gala Is Allegedly Damaged

AceShowbiz –Kim Kardashian‘s aim to honor Marilyn Monroe may have gone wrong. The reality TV star is likely to blame after the late star’s iconic dress, which she wore to the 2022 Met Gala, is allegedly damaged.
On Monday, June 13, Pop Crave posted side-by-side photos of the gown, allegedly from before and after the SKIMS founder borrowed it for the Met Gala. The after-snap shows signs of damages, including stretched fabric and missing crystals, particularly around the dress’ back closure.
“Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress has reportedly been damaged after being worn by Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala,” so the caption accompanying the pictures read. “The dress now shows signs of tearing, and several crystals are either missing or hanging off of it.”
Social media users were left fuming after learning of this. “Kim should’ve never worn that dress to begin with,” one person opined. “I mean yes it’s nice to pay homage to Marilyn but she could’ve had a new dress made and replicated. This was a timeless and iconic artifact that’s been ruined.”
Another person tweeted in response, “Leave it to kim to destroy a historial (sic) piece of art.” A third sarcastically added, “Congratulations to the Met Gala for showcasing a real-life example of why a conservation department like the Costume Institute is necessary for historically significant garments.”
Kim borrowed the Marilyn Monroe dress, which the late star wore in 1962, from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Museum. She assured that she would take extra care with the iconic dress. “I’m extremely respectful to the dress and what it means to American history,” she told Vogue ahead of the star-studded event. “I would never want to sit in it or eat in it or have any risk of any damage to it and I won’t be wearing the kind of body makeup I usually do.”
The 41-year-old then revealed that she had to lose 16 pounds to fit into the historic gown, but was still unable to zip it, hence why she draped herself with a white fur shawl while on the carpet. “I tried it on and it didn’t fit me,” she recalled the struggles to wear the dress on the red carpet. “It was such a challenge. It was like a role, I was determined to fit in it.”
