Love Island fans have called for the show to ditch the “dull” money twist at the end of the final after winners Millie Court and Liam Reardon split the £50,000 prize.

The twist at the end of each series sees the show’s winners provided with an envelope, with one containing £50,000 and the other completely empty.

The contestant who is awarded the prize money then has to decide if they’re in it for “love or money” and pick whether or not to take home the full amount for themselves or split it with their co-star.

After picking the envelope containing the jackpot, host Laura Whitmore asked Millie if she was going to: “Split or steal?”

The Essex-born star replied that she was of course choosing “love”, leaving Laura having to confirm she did indeed want to split the cash with her Welsh other half.

The moment came just after Liam had made their relationship official.

No Love Island winner has ever stolen the £50,000 for themselves, and the predictable outcome of Millie’s decision left fans calling for the twist to be scrapped.

Branding it “dull”, one wrote on Twitter: “They seriously need to scrap this splitting money thing, it’s dull #LoveIsland”.

Another added: “PLEEEEEEEEASE scrap the Love or Money £50,000 split thing. #LoveIsland”.

A third wrote: “They need to just get rid of the money twist lol, literally no one is ever going to steal and it just kills the moment #LoveIsland”.

Love Island’s celebrity fans were also left unimpressed, with both Radio 1 DJ Greg James and former Strictly Come Dancing professional James Jordan both taking to Twitter to voice their views.

“Get rid of that s**t envelope bit,” wrote Greg, before adding that he wanted Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran to take home the title.

“Ps. Chloe and Toby 4eva” he commented beneath.

Faye Winter and Teddy Soares finished in third place behind Chloe and Toby, while Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank were fourth.

Dancing On Ice winner James thinks the show needs to up the ante and increase the amount on money on offer to see a steal.

He wrote: “£50,000 isn’t enough to tempt them even if they weren’t genuine Will make that in the 1st week they are out of the Villa Make it £1,000,000 and then we would see if they are there for Love or Money Am I the only person that wants to see someone keep all the money? #LoveIsland”.

Meanwhile, comedian Rob Beckett came up with his own idea for the twist, writing on Twitter: “They should swap the £50k prize for 1 million insta followers. Might make the decision more interesting. #LoveIsland”.

And Rob’s fans agreed, with one adding: “Love this”, while a second wrote: “Should be done in Golden Balls style”.
