Martha Stewart, 81, dons swimsuit to be oldest Sports Illustrated cover star

Martha Stewart, 81, gave her fans a glimpse they have never seen before as she posed on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s 2023 issue.

The television personality made history by being the oldest woman ever to appear on the front of the magazine.

Martha looked amazing in ten different swimsuits, showing off her ageless appearance and amazing physique.

One image showed her standing in a red one-piece with a plunging neckline, while another featured the 81-year-old smiling towards the camera in a white bathing suit and an orange shawl.

The socialite has since spoken out on why she agreed to the shoot, admitting it was “a challenge” but she hoped it would do something for those insecure about their ageing bodies.

Martha told Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb on the Today Show that she was actually asked to do the cover in November 2022, just weeks before the photo shoot was scheduled in January.

She said: “That was kind of a request that I’ve never had before. To be on the cover at my age was a challenge. And I think I met the challenge.”

Sharing her fears, Martha admitted that she didn’t “starve” herself for the shoot, but instead opted for a “clean life”.

Stewart continued: “I didn’t starve myself, but I didn’t eat any bread or pasta for a couple of months.

“I went to Pilates every other day and that was great; I’m still going to Pilates every other day ’cause it’s so great.

“And I just, I live a clean life anyway — good diet and good exercise and healthy skincare and all of that stuff.”

Martha then went on to the topic of ageing, admitting she hopes her appearance on the cover goes as a “testament for good living”.

She expressed: “I think all of us should think about good living, successfully living, and not ageing. The whole ageing thing is so boring. You know what I mean?

“I have a hospital called the Center for Living at Mt. Sinai. I started this hospital with Mt. Sinai and it’s all about growing old gracefully.

“We don’t think about ageing, we think about successful living and we try to instil in people the desire to eat well, exercise well, have friends to have pets — to do all the things that make you happy as you get older. So that’s what I’m all about.”

She also credited her late mother, also named Martha, for her good genes as being part of the reason why she looks so good at 81.

Martha said: “My mom was my role model. After four kids, she was still wearing a two-piece bathing suit.

“And she still had two more after that and she was still wearing a two-piece bathing suit, so that’s pretty fabulous. My genes are good.”

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s other cover stars for 2023 include actress Megan Fox, 36, transgender Grammy-award-winning singer Kim Petras, 30, and model Brooks Nader, 26.
