Martin Roberts wife: How Homes Under The Hammer host met wife thanks to fruit cake

Homes Under The Hammer: Martin Roberts says he’s not leaving

Martin Roberts, 57, is a regular face on daytime TV as he presents as part of BBC property renovation series Homes Under The Hammer. Tonight the presenter will appear on Celebrity Mastermind alongside TV presenters Fern Britton and Arthur Williams as well as actress Victoria Ekanoye – but how did Martin and his wife Kirsty first meet?

Martin and wife Kirsty have been married for a decade having tied the knot back in 2010.

While he has become a familiar face on the daytime TV show Homes Under The Hammer he prefers to keep his family life out of the spotlight.

However, the presenter previously revealed the sweet way he and Kirsty first crossed paths.

In an unearthed interview with MailOnline, Martin explained: “I drank the contents of this beer bottle in 1999 at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro when I was reporting on an NSPCC charity climb for ITV’s Wish You Were Here…?.

“I’d never met my wife Kirsty before, but she was on the climb too raising money.

“Her granny had made her a fruit cake to take and she kept one piece for the summit.”

He continued: “At the top I collapsed with altitude sickness, and out of the mist came Kirsty bearing this final piece of cake for me.

He later gushed: “I have to admit – it was love at first bite!”

The couple have since welcomed two children together, daughter Megan and son Scott.

In his weekly Q&A on Twitter this week, Martin gave a rare insight into his family life as opened up on homeschooling his children.

One fan asked: “Why, at the age of 38, do I have to sit through year 7 geography again will the homeschooling ever end? (sic)”

In response, the 57-year-old replied: “Tell me about it!!

“I used to love geography though, so is that so bad? It could be French!”

Martin also opened up on how he has spent more time with his children during lockdown.

Another fan asked: “Is there anything you have done during lockdown, you’ve never done before?”

He answered: “I’ve finally done my YouTube channel and done my DIY with the kids which is great.”

Away from his family life, the presenter found fame as part of the popular property renovation series Homes Under The Hammer.

He has been a presenter on the daytime classic since it first hit our screens in 2003.

At the time he appeared alongside fellow host Lucy Alexander as they helped news buyers see potential the house they bought at auction.

Martin now presents the series alongside Scottish TV host Martel Maxwell and former football star Dion Dublin.
