Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Allegedly Quit Their Royal Duties Without Telling the Royal Family

Hi, hello, are you good? Are you sure? Okay, great, just making sure because today is literally the most stressful day for the British royal family and, by extension, royal fans like YOU because Meghan Markle and Prince Harry officially announced that they will be stepping down from their senior royal duties. You read that correctly—Meghan and Harry kinda quit.

They made the announcement via their Instagram, @SussexRoyal, and said they gave the decision much thought before dropping this massive bomb on us. If for some reason you do not believe me (can’t even blame you, TBH), here is the actual post to see for yourself:

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. Now, IDK about you, but this statement led me to believe that they discussed this entire quitting situation with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and came to a conclusion that benefits all parties. But that’s not exactly true. Meghan and Harry allegedly up and left the palace without any warning, because there are now reports saying they didn’t consult the rest of the royal family before their quitting announcement. This is beyond wild!

Jonny Dymond, royal correspondent for BBC News, confirmed this and wrote, “BBC understands that no other member of the Royal Family was consulted before Harry and Meghan issued their personal statement tonight, the Palace is understood to be ‘disappointed.’”

Following the announcement, royal editor and correspondent Omid Scobie tweeted out that Buckingham Palace made their own statement, which claims they are only in an “early stage” of coming to an agreement with Harry and Meghan.

“Discussion with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage,” the palace’s statement said. “We understand the desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.” Meaning, yeah—Meghan and Harry probably decided to bounce TF out of their royal duties without much notice.
