Only Fools on Horses star Kate Saunders dies age 62, her family confirms
Kate Saunders has died at the age of 62.
The actress’ sister Louisa confirmed the news on Twitter as she paid tribute to her “brave” sibling.
She wrote: “My sister, who we lost last Friday.
“The warmest, bravest, most generous and most brilliant woman I will ever know. Heaven knows how we will live without her.”
The official Only Fools on Horses Twitter account also paid tribute to Kate, who is believed to have died from cancer.
“We are sorry to learn of the passing of Kate Saunders, who played police-woman Sandra in the episode The Long Legs of the Law in 1982,” the page wrote.
"In addition to her acting career, Kate was an award-winning novelist, journalist and critic. Our thoughts are with her family."
As well as being known from her cameo in the hit British comedy, Kate starred in Angles, A Family Affair and Just Good Friends.
She’d also been a panellist on Have I Got News For You.
But acting wasn’t the only career Kate had, the late 62 year old was also a successful writer and journalist, and penned over 20 books for both adults and children.
If that wasn’t enough to keep her busy, Kate was also a columnist for national publications such as The Sunday Times, The Sunday Express and Cosmopolitan.
Part of Kate’s obituary penned in The Guardian reads: “Sipping champagne at home with her friends after receiving the last rites, she died as she had lived, with courage, grace and style.”
In the wake of the news of her passing, Kate’s fans have taken to Twitter to pay tribute to her.
One person wrote: “Kate Saunders wrote such a moving and generous review of my novel in the Jewish Chronicle. I’m sure there must be many other writers who also have reason to be grateful to her. RIP.”
“Rip Kate Saunders. She was on the very first Have I got news for you,” said another.
A third continued: “I'm gutted about this. Kate Saunders was brilliant, one of our very greatest authors. Five Children On The Western Front is a book that absolutely EVERYONE should read.”
“So very sad to hear about the death of Kate Saunders, a wonderful writer both of children’s books and adult novels,” echoed a fourth.
Elsewhere, Kate’s been hailed as “a brilliant woman and an amazing talent”.
The late novelist is survived by her siblings Etta, Louisa, Ed and Charlotte.
