Piers Morgan BLASTS Love Island bosses for not removing Maura
‘She attacks men!’ Piers Morgan BLASTS Love Island bosses for not removing ‘predatory’ Maura… as Ofcom reveals it will not investigate the 700 complaints about her
Piers Morgan has slammed Love Island bosses for not removing Maura from the villa for her behavior towards Tommy weeks ago.
The Irish brunette made quite a stir when she set her sights on the hunky boxer when she first arrived on the show last month – branded ‘predatory’ by some viewers and a ‘feminist icon’ by others.
Ofcom were flooded with around 700 complaints about the reality starlet, yet have since revealed they won’t be investigating matters further.
I don’t believe it! Piers Morgan has slammed Love Island bosses for not removing Maura from the villa for her behavior towards Tommy weeks ago
‘She attacks men – here she is forcing herself on a man and she’s a feminist icon,’ Piers, 54, raged on Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain, referring to the moment Maura climbed all over Tommy in his bed.
‘Of course if a man was doing this to a girl in there he would be attacked, shamed and probably arrested and jailed.
‘But because she’s doing it she’s a feminist icon. If a man did it he would be thrown out of the house.’
Piers also shared that his sons – Spencer, 25, Stanley, 21, and Bertie, 18 – have been approached to appear on the show, but that he’d cut them out of his will if they did it.
‘My oldest son is addicted to [Love Island’, which I find really depressing,’ he said. ‘My sons get regularly asked to go on reality television. I said “no problem”, they go “really Dad?” I said, “sure, as long as you don’t mind being cut out of the will, not a problem”.
‘And at that point, funnily enough, there’s a dramatic C-change in their attitude.’

Ofcom received 486 complaints on the Friday it was aired alone, after viewers watched the ring girl attempt to plant a kiss on Tommy while lying on top of him.
A spokesperson explained that they had assessed the complaints about the episode which aired on June 14, but would not be investigating them further, saying: ‘While we recognise that many viewers disapproved of a contestant’s behaviour in this episode, we took into account the context in which it occurred, including the nature of Maura and Tommy’s relationship, before and after.’
The regulator said that all complaints about the episode had been ‘assessed under generally accepted standards’.
Of the 726 complaints received, the ‘vast majority’ – 709 – were from viewers who alleged Maura had ‘sexually harassed’ Tommy by trying to kiss him on multiple occasions, Ofcom said.

Inappropriate? Viewers branded Maura, 28, ‘desperate’ and ‘crossing a line’ on Twitter
Viewers saw Tommy dodge Maura’s attempts at seduction, but the undeterred model later stared directly into his eyes and asked him if she ‘turned him on.’ Tommy declined her advances and is now happily coupled-up with Molly-May.
Ofcom holds the power to fine broadcasters who breach its rules and say the fine is dependent on the size and turnover of the firm – fines can reach an upper limit of 10% of the broadcaster’s turnover.
ITV was issued the largest fine of any broadcaster in 2008 when Ofcom charged them £5.68m for their abuse of premium phone lines on shows including Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway and Ant and Dec’s Gameshow Marathon.
Other matters brought up by viewers about the current run of Love Island have included 302 complaints in relation to the treatment of Lucie by the other Islanders earlier on in the series.
