Piers Morgan slams Meghan Markle for ‘ditching dad and splitting Prince Harry from Royal family’

Piers Morgan has branded the Duke and Duchess of Sussex "hypocrites" after they announced they would be stepping down as senior members of the royal family.

Meghan Markle, 38, and Prince Harry, 35, who recently returned from a private break in Canada, announced the decision on their Instagram account, saying they have had months of “reflection and internal discussions”.

They added: "We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

But Good Morning Britain presenter Piers, who's been known for taking swipes at Meghan in the past, couldn't help but voice his opinions about the news on Twitter.

Upon hearing the news, the 54 year old immediately told his seven million followers: "People say I'm too critical of Meghan Markle – but she ditched her family, ditched her Dad, ditched most of her old friends, split Harry from William & has now split him from the Royal Family. I rest my case."

He later shared a tweet by Canadian journalist Meghan Murphy, who said she believed Meghan was the "victim of the most vicious racism and media bullying".

Unsympathetic, Piers quipped: "Oh pur-lease. What's been 'painful to watch' has been their absurd woke hypocrisy & constant whining. All on our dime."

To further emphasise his point, he then shared another tweet from BBC royal correspondent Johnny Dymond, alleging that no other members of the Royal family was consulted before Meghan and Harry announced their decision and said: "The Palace is understood to be 'disappointed.'"

Retweeting the post, Piers added: "Wow. What a disgraceful way to treat The Queen. Shame on Harry & Meghan."

Many of the TV presenter's fans thought Piers was correct in his assessment of the situation as one person said: "I agree 100%. The way she treated her Dad was a warning sign. Also her ex-husband. She has split Harry from his brother which their Mother would have hated and disrespected our Queen who is 93 with an ailing husband. We're well rid of her with her "woke" nonsense and narcissism."

Another wrote: "Sadly, I have to agree with you. I think one of the problems the public has with her is that she’s changed our beloved Harry".

A third added: "I've been saying the same thing. She has drove the wedge between William and harry, who were extremely close since the death of thier mother diana." [sic]

While a large proportion agreed with Piers, some made a point not to as one person said: "Would have to disagree with you on this one Piers. They have made the decision as a “family”. It’s not like she has a gun to his head. He wants to protect his wife and his son. I can personally only applaud their choice."

A second added: "Since when is separating yourself from toxic people and establishing a life of your own a bad thing?"

While a third wrote: "Sorry Piers but if you think Harry is "doing as he is told" I have to disagree, I think they have made the decision together and I believe it is the best decision for them. I wish them all the luck in the world."
