Prince William and Kate cut all socialising to spend Christmas with the Queen

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have agreed to cancel any social events they have planned in the run-up to Christmas.

This is so the Royal couple can spend time with William's 95-year-old grandmother, The Queen on Christmas Day.

Measures have been brought in to ensure her Majesty is not alone over the festive period, following the continuing spread of the COVID-19 variant Omicron.

The Queen has already made the tough decision to cancel the Royal Family's annual pre-Christmas party at which she was to spend time with her newest great-grandchildren.

This will be the first Christmas for The Queen without her beloved husband Prince Philip, who passed away earlier this year. Last Christmas her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh spent the day together in Windsor Castle.

Following the cancellation, Royal reporter Rebecca English tweeted: “It could put too many people’s Christmas arrangements at risk if it went ahead.”

This thoughtful approach has been followed by the rest of the Royal family, as Prince William and Kate have now joined her Majesty in amending their plans to keep her company on Christmas Day.

Prince Charles and Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and his wife Sophie have also agreed to postpone their plans so they can spend time with The Queen at Christmas.

A source told The Mirror: “In terms of plans for Christmas, everything is up in the air. Senior members of the family have spoken with each other and cut back on all but essential contacts in public so they are ready to travel to be with the Queen wherever Christmas can take place."

The Queen has led the decision to remain united with the rest of the nation, as Christmas lunches, office parties and special events across the country are being cancelled at the very last minute.

The Mirror's source continued: “As she has acted throughout the pandemic, the Queen will do what she feels is right in the current circumstances which are ever changing."

The Duke and Duchess were able to squeeze in some festive entertainment recently, as they sat in the posh seats for the Royal Variety Performance on 17 November.

The couple were in hysterics as Alan Carr wowed the audience with his incredible body transformation act. The staple of the festive TV calendar will be aired on Sunday 19 December on ITV.
