Prince William reveals ‘sadness’ over relationship with brother Prince Harry and that the royal family is ‘no longer a team’

Prince William is reportedly “desperately sad” that his close relationship with his brother Prince Harry has changed ahead of the news that he will step back from his senior role in the royal family alongside wife Meghan Markle.

The Duke of Cambridge, 37, is said to have expressed his upset over Harry’s decision, branding their relationship as now being like “separate entities”.

Ahead of a face-to-face conversation between William, Harry, the Queen and their father Prince Charles set to take place at Sandringham on Monday, reports have suggested that William spoke of his rumoured “rift” with his brother.

According to the Sunday Times, William said: “I've put my arm around my brother all our lives and I can't do that any more – we're separate entities.

“I’m sad about that. All we can do, and all I can do is try and support them and hope that the time comes when we’re all singing from the same page.

“I want everyone to play on the team.”

Last year, in an ITV documentary following his royal tour of South Africa with his wife, the Duke of Sussex spoke of his relationship with his brother, saying they were on “different paths”.

"Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under… stuff happens," Harry said.

"But look we’re brothers. We’ll always be brothers."

He continued: “We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and as I know he’ll always be there for me…

“We don’t see each other as much as we used to because we’re so busy but I love him dearly.

"The majority of the stuff is created out of nothing but as brothers it’s just as I said, you have good days, you have bad days," Harry added.

It comes after reports that talks between members of the royal family regarding the future of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are “progressing well” after their announcement to split their time between the UK and North America.

Talks about their roles in the royal family are said to be being concluded “sooner rather than later”, with the UK and Canadian governments being consulted over their future plans.
