Rod Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster admits she once cheekily tossed pants on stage at him

Rod Stewart shares birthday wishes from family

Sir Rod Stewart, 75, was once left baffled by a solitary pair of “horrible” men’s briefs that were thrown at him on stage while he sang in Las Vegas. His former model wife Penny Lancaster, 49, later shared that she was the one who chucked the underwear at Rod as part of a long tradition at concerts.

Once backstage the You Wear It well singer discovered that it was his wife who had pulled the prank.

However, Rod was able to see the funny side, thankfully.

He shared: “I’ll still have thousands of women throwing their knickers up.

“The last time that happened I was singing away in Las Vegas and a pair of men’s grey underpants came up.

“They were really horrible. It was my wife who threw ’em up,” he added.

The tradition of throwing underwear on stage began in the ’60s with the likes of Sir Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck, who are both now in their 80s.

Penny had hidden in the audience before launching the pair of ugly briefs onto the stage.

“She hid in the audience and threw a pair of men’s undies up,” he told Harry Redknapp on his podcast.

Rod made the revelation after being asked if he would rather perform a concert for 100,000 women throwing their knickers, or score a goal for Celtic in the champions league final.

He replied: “Oh, give me the goal, yeah.”

The singer is a keen Celtic supporter and football enthusiast.

He has even said when he dies he would like his ashes scattered over their stadium Celtic Park, also known as Paradise to fans.
