Ruth Langsford has hit back at critics who say she and Eamonn Holmes argue too much ahead of their This Morning comeback.

The couple will be stepping in for the next seven weeks as Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby take their annual break.

Having recently celebrated 25 years together – 11 of those spent married – the pair were asked what the secret is to such a successful relationship.

Ruth answered: “As much as people sometimes say, ‘Oh they argue’, I would say, ‘No we don’t, we have differences of opinion’ and I think that’s healthy!”

The 61 year old added: “People will always see that we laugh a lot too…

Ruth continued: “But 25 years is a long time to be together and I think working together as well – not many people work with their partner as well – so I think a lot of respect comes into it. I think you have to respect each other as people and we respect each other as broadcasters.”

Eamonn chimed in to agree with his wife, adding: “I agree. There’s a huge amount of understanding and tolerance and a good dollop of humour that keeps you going.”

Despite being one of the best examples of ‘Couple Goals’ on British television, Ruth admitted that the pair “always laugh at the term,” adding that “it’s such a modern expression".

Ruth and Eamonn – who were axed from their regular Friday slot on This Morning in favour of Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond – made their return to the popular breakfast show on Monday 12 July.

Fans of the couple were thrilled to see the presenting pair back on the sofa again, with one even saying they “missed [their] bickering.”

The tweet read: “Oh Ruth and Eamonn I’ve missed your bickering, it’s so good to have it back.”

Another viewer branded them “the king and queen of daytime telly.”

Clearly pleased that Ruth and Eamonn are back for their seasonal stint, they added: “Summer just wouldn’t be summer without Eamonn and Ruth on #ThisMorning.”

This Morning has had an all-white presenting lineup for decades and the shakeup is thought to be an attempt from producers to make the roster more representative.

Alison secured her regular hosting spot after a successful presenting sting last summer and has so far proven to be a huge hit with fans of the show.
