Ryan Evans Is Seemingly Gay In High School Musical: The Musical: Series Season 4, Scott Hoying Plays His Partner!

The first musical number and opening scene from the upcoming fourth season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series has been released!

One of the big takeaways from it includes Scott Hoying playing a love interest for Lucas Grabeel‘s Ryan Evans, who is now canonically queer.

In the clip, which you can watch here, Ryan goes to the side of stage and Scott says, “You look amazing, this is so cool!”

Ryan replies, “This means so much to me that you are here.”

Scott then says, “I love you,” and they kiss before Ryan goes back to center stage.

We also get an update on other characters – Monique Coleman‘s Taylor McKessie is now principal at East High, Corbin Bleu‘s Chad Danforth seems to still be with Taylor, Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) are silent in the group chat, and Ms Darbus (Alyson Reed) is retiring!

If you recall, while Ryan has always come off as an LGTBQ+ character, his sexuality was never talked about or really referenced in the original High School Musical movies.

Back in December 2019, Lucas opened up about them not labeling Ryan’s sexuality, while in July 2020, director Kenny Ortega also opened up about Ryan’s sexuality.

This isn’t the first time Lucas has been on HSMTMTS – he appeared as himself in season one!
