The Truth About ‘Pooch Perfect’s’ Jorge Bendersky

They say dogs are a man’s best friend, and these dogs are ready for their close up! People reports that a new dog grooming reality show called Pooch Perfect is slated to premiere on ABC on March 30, 2021, proving that “dogs can have just as much style as their owners.” The eight-episode series, hosted by actor Rebel Wilson, pits the country’s best dog groomers and their assistants against one another in a series of epic grooming challenges. Think fur, fluff, and dye jobs galore; nothing is off the table. Each episode eliminates one team, sending them to the doghouse — get it? — until only the best dog groomer is left standing.

While the reality series promises to be a must-see for dog lovers, it also appeals to a wide range of audiences with its talented panel of judges. Along with Wilson, Pooch Perfect features Lisa Vanderpump (of Vanderpump Rules), veterinarian Dr. Callie Harris and dog groomer, Jorge Bendersky (via People). Though viewers are likely most familiar with Wilson, thanks to her comedic turns in popular films like Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids, those of us less focused on canines might not recognize the last two judges. Let’s take a closer look at Jorge Bendersky.

Jorge Bendersky services an exclusive clientele (and their pets)

As far as dog groomers go, Jorge Bendersky is something of a celebrity. With rates starting at $300 an hour, clients must be willing to shell out some serious cash in order to have their pups cleaned, massaged, and styled by his skillful hands. The New York-based groomer, who authored the best-selling book, DIY Dog Grooming: From Puppy Cuts to Best in Show, Everything You Need to Know, confesses that he is a “diva” when it comes to both people and pets. “I’m very selective; I must like the dog and the owner,” he revealed to Business Insider, adding that his client roster includes Ralph Lauren, Sean Combs, and Gisele Bündchen. “All my business is through word of mouth and everyone must go through a couple of interviews. I’m definitely a diva. I have refused dogs … in the past.” Let’s hope he takes a liking to the pooches of Pooch Perfect!

A born artist with a background in theater, Bendersky treats his house calls like performances. “I studied stand-up comedy and am certified as a counselor for the A.V.P. Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence hotline so I can groom your dog, make you laugh, and listen to you — that’s why I’m so expensive,” he explained to Business Insider. Pooch Perfect also is not his first rodeo on reality TV. According to the outletBendersky judged on TLC’s Extreme Poodles and appeared on Animal Planet shows Groomer Has It and Dogs 101.
