Behind-the-Scenes of Bling Empire Star Christine Chiu's Glam Lunar New Year Celebrations

Wakeup and Makeup

“Hi PEOPLE Magazine! I am so excited to take you behind the scenes with me and my family as we celebrate Lunar New Year. This year, [my husband] Dr. [Gabriel] Chiu and I decided to take [our son] Baby G [Gabriel Chiu III] to Chinatown Los Angeles for the first time to explore the sights and immerse ourselves in the traditions of the holiday. Now more than ever, it is so important for us to educate Baby G about our culture’s rich history and local Angeleno community. I am so happy to take you along on this very special day with us! And with that…come get ready with me!”

Baby G Style Flex

“Of course, before I can do anything we must make sure that Baby G’s outfit is picked out. We chose this handmade traditional look that I purchased in one of my favorite coastal towns in Taiwan. A perfect and comfy ensemble for the occasion. He is going to have so much fun roaming today!”

The Beauty Breakdown

“I love seeing the artist at work! The fabulous makeup artist Patrick Tumey chose to use some of my favorite beauty and makeup products. We start off with Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Aqua Foundation, Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Sheer Moist Powder and Koh Gen Do BrighteningMmoisture Powder for the base. Then the fun really begins! We went with One-Size eyeshadow palette and liquid eyeliner by Patrick Starr. Then we used a highlighter by Anastasia Beverly Hills, false lashes by Liberty Lash and KKW Beauty Brightening Powder. We finished off with a red lip from YSL Beauté. Et voilá!”

Seeing Red

“Today’s look! I chose this piece from Fendi’s Lunar New Year capsule collection, satin Roger Vivier pumps and a classic Hermès Kelly bag. The color red is special to our culture as it symbolizes luck, joy and happiness. It is also known to ward off evil spirits!”

Making Memories

“Though raising Baby G as a Christian, it’s important for him to be accepting of all cultures and religions. We are here at the beautiful Thien Hau Temple.”

Taking in the Beauty

“A look of wonder! As Baby G gets older, he is also becoming very curious and asks a lot of questions. I’m so happy to have this opportunity to start to educate him on our Chinese heritage, local Los Angeles history and lessons on perseverance, community and leadership. While walking through the beautiful pagoda-style buildings under red lanterns of Chinatown, we can chat about arts, architecture, cinema and humanity.”

Celebrating Chinese Culture

“Introducing Baby G to his culture and heritage through sites, smells, tastes and touch. We are visiting art galleries, herbal stores, antiques and more — and every stop gives us an opportunity to learn a little more about ourselves, as well as to give back to our local community by supporting their businesses. After visiting the monument honoring Peter Soo Hoo, who is the champion behind New Chinatown Los Angeles, we head over to our favorite ‘musts’: Pearl River Deli (for a symbolic dish, ‘poon choi’) and Phoenix Bakery (founded in 1938 for traditional Chinese cookies and pastries).”
