I gave my garden a total transformation on a shoestring budget – people think it was a pro job but I did it all myself | The Sun

A DIY pro has revealed how she completely transformed her garden on a shoestring budget – and people can’t believe how professional it looks

Stephanie McCall took to TikTok to share how she gave her bog-standard garden a glow-up, even managing to make a chic pergola from scratch.

Known online as @stephmccall, she regularly shares updates on her house renovation and DIY tips with her 20,500 followers.

In a new TikTok reel, she said: “Complete garden transformation from beginning to end #shoestringdiy.”

During the one-minute video, Stephanie shares what her garden looked like before she set to work.

The large square was mostly covered in soil, with a few patches of dry grass and a small patio made from concrete slabs.

As part of her total overhaul, she started by building a base for her decking, made from wooden battens that she screwed together using a hand drill.

She then moved on to building the structure for her pergola, again using sturdy wooden planks.

After finishing the structure, she added pale grey composite decking panels over the entire thing.

Stephanie then started on her luxe-looking outdoor fireplace, decorating the chimney breast with concrete in a range of grey tones to compliment the decking.

Next she painted her pergola charcoal, before adding chic wooden panelling to one side.

Finally, she added a range of bargain furniture, including a sofa set and a bar table with matching stools.

Further along her L-shaped decking area, she also placed a four-seater dining table, large potted plants and two sun loungers.

In the final video, she revealed she had laid some new turf to complete the look.

Fans loved her transformation, with the video gaining more than 1,300 likes and 38,700 views.

In the comments, other TikTokkers shared their reactions, with one writing: “Ok you are superwoman… looks absolutely amazing!.”

“My toxic trait is me thinking I can do this,” joked another.

A third asked: “Possibly daft question but did you need to get planning permission for the pergola, please?”

Stephanie replied: “No this is a great question, as long as it is built within a certain size you don't need planning permission, but every local authority is different.”

Someone else put: “I've said it before and I'll say it again truly amazing well done.”
