I hate junk so live by a simple 20/20 rule – now my house is ALWAYS tidy and my drawers aren't jammed with useless stuff | The Sun
A PROFESSIONAL organiser has revealed the one simple rule she follows which helps her ditch the clutter in minutes – and people can’t believe they didn’t think of it before.
Jacqueline Stein suggested using her 20/20 rule, which argues that you can throw away or donate all those ‘just in case’ items you're hoarding – unless you can’t get something for under $20 (£16) in 20 minutes.
The decluttering expert, known online as @home_reimagined, regularly shares cleaning tips and home hacks with her 368,900 followers.
In a new video, the content creator said: “We’re going to talk about the 20/20 rule for those ‘just in case’ items.
“We hold on to a lot of items and tell ourselves, ‘just in case we may need it later’.
“But did you realise that now you’re taking up valuable space for items you actually use, for these items you may or may not ever use again?

“The 20/20 rule states for just in case items, if you’re not currently using it, if you ever needed it later, and you can get it for less than $20 in less than 20 minutes, then remove it from your home.
“This doesn’t apply to all items obviously. This is not for sentimental items.
“You can apply it to those extra items though like earbuds that no longer plug into your phone, instruction manuals that you’re holding on to, sample beauty products you never use, or even toys your kids or pets never played with.
“It’s okay to let it go if it no longer serves a purpose.

“This is a great way to declutter random items around your home that don’t hold any true value to you, but you may be having a hard time deciding if you need to get rid of them.”

“‘If you really need it again you can always repurchase,’ that’s honestly the best piece of advice,” commented another.
