The Internet Is Fully Losing It Over These Under-$200 Loafers From Nordstrom

I received a text from my sister about "the shoe." She asked if I knew when it would be coming back in stock. It was the first time in a long time where she asked me about shopping or inquired about an It item and I couldn't answer. Instead, I wrote back, "What shoe?"

While I waited for her to respond, I theorized. Maybe it was the Ganni Chelsea boots Bella Hadid can't stop wearing? But no, the shoe she was referring to is by Jeffrey Campbell and thus far more affordable, but it's selling out at Nordstrom just as quickly. The shoes in question are the Student Platform Loafers that retail for $170 and come in several colors. Apparently, they're the talk of the town over on TikTok, particularly in the pink-blue-purple and bright green-yellow-orange colorways.

My sister sent me a TikTok of a girl unboxing a pair of these internet-famous loafers. Instantly, the algorithm fed me a handful of other videos just like it. By the time I went to check out the shoe myself on Nordstrom, they were completely sold out.

I told that to my sister, who then mentioned she loved the silhouette but was unsure about the colors, since she didn't tend to wear colorful shoes. Lucky for her, Nordstrom just restocked the best-selling shoe — not in the loud colors that made it go viral, but in a more subtle gray patent, and a black crinkle patent too. There was also a brown-white-black option, but like the other tri-color options, it sold out seconds after it hit virtual shelves.

I'll admit, I was a little taken aback to hear about Gen Z's obsession with this particular shoe. Yes, loafers are big right now, but still I couldn't help but wonder if I was missing something. But after staring at the shoes long enough, I think I've cracked it. Platform loafers are the most comfortable fancy shoe you can wear, and this take by Jeffrey Campbell looks nearly identical to the horsebit Gucci loafers. Making shoes that are comfortable, trendy, and look like everything you've dreamed of for hundreds of dollars less is basically Jeffrey Campbell's MO. And no hate, because the shoes do feel different enough from Gucci's, and not everyone can afford a luxury loafer.

For this exact reason, I lived in Jeffrey Campbell during college. Every shoe the brand made looked like the ones I saw in magazines and blogs but at a (sale) price I could often afford. I haven't worn a pair by the brand for years until I found these purple cow-print cowboy boots recently, and everything I used to love about the brand still holds true.

Suddenly, Gen Z's obsession felt so obvious. Jeffrey Campbell has always been the perfect shoe for the youth, and these are the perfect ones for the moment. They're colorful enough to brighten your day, trendy enough to look fresh off the runway, and comfortable enough to wear in your living room.

For those hoping to score a more colorful iteration of the loafer right this minute, Nordstrom has Jeffrey Campbell Lenna Penny Loafers in stock in five colors. The shoe doesn't have a platform, which makes it easier to wear. The department store also has the Sorbonne loafer, which is a classic black staple, for $160. The Recess Chain Platform Loafer is also a timeless classic, with a chunky sole like the ones Prada's monolith boot made popular and a chain bridge that feels Gucci. And there's the overlooked Scholar Platform Loafer that offers even more height than the Student loafer and is currently on sale for $104.

So now that we're all up to date on "the shoe," take a lesson from the teens and shop Jeffrey Campbell loafers while they're still in stock below.
