Are Meghan Markle and Beyonce Friends?

Beyonce and Meghan Markle are both strong, powerful women. When Beyonce paid tribute to Meghan a couple of months ago, it had many people asking what the story was. Do they know each other in real life? Are they friends? They clearly admire each other, so what’s the deal? Here are the details.

Meghan Markle and Beyonce know the same people

Beyonce and Meghan have mutual friends, mainly Serena Williams. The tennis star was one of the first people to visit Meghan’s new baby, Archie, at Frogmore Cottage. She is a close pal of the duchess. Meghan wrote about the friendship on her former blog The Tig: “We hit it off immediately… She quickly became a confidant I would text when I was traveling, the friend I would rally around for her tennis matches, and the down to earth chick I was able to grab lunch with just a couple weeks ago in Toronto.”

Beyonce has known Serena for years, as well. When Beyonce released her hour-long “visual album,” Lemonade, which included many shots of powerful black women, Serena featured prominently. The two have supported each other’s careers many times.

They often share messages to each other over social media, encouraging and congratulating each other on their successes. They both attended Ciara’s Halloween-themed birthday party, which was documented by an epic Instagram photo, and Beyonce attended Serena’s wedding to Alexis Ohanian. Meghan was also invited to the wedding but wasn’t able to attend because she was busing filming in Toronto.

The Duke of Sussex has proudly been patron of UK based organization Well Child since 2007. Over 100,000 children and young people are living with serious illness or exceptional health needs across the UK. Many spend months, even years in hospital vs at home because there is no support enabling them to leave. Well Child’s vision is for every child and young person living with serious health needs to have the best chance to thrive properly supported at home with their families. Both the Duke and Duchess attended the Well Child Awards in the winter of 2018, supporting the incredible families and children who benefit from the Well Child programs. For those who have inquired, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex ask that you consider supporting @wellchild and three other select charities in lieu of sending baby gifts for their upcoming arrival. Both women are big supporters of feminism. Beyonce has empowered women all over the world with an image that’s both strong and sexy. Her song, Flawless, featured the definition of feminism in the lyrics, and she displayed the word “Feminist” across stadium screens during her tour. Speaking to Elle, Beyonce said: “I put the definition of feminist in my song and on my tour, not for propaganda or to proclaim to the world that I’m a feminist, but to give clarity to the true meaning.”

Before Meghan joined the royal family, back when she had more freedom to express her opinions, she was a fierce defender of women. She even appeared in a video ad for the U.N. supporting women’s rights.

That’s not the only interest the women share, they’ve both been big supporters of African American heritage. Beyonce even posted an endearing message of support for Meghan on her personal website for Black History Month. She listed the many reasons Meghan is an inspiration to black women and then finished the post with the message: “In honor of Black History Month, we bow down to one of our Melanated Monas. Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy.”

Beyonce paid tribute to Meghan Markle during the Brit Awards

The award for the international group at the 2019 Brit Awards went to Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z, for their collaborative work as The Carters. The pair were not able to accept the award in person, but they did send a special video message to play during the award show in acceptance of the award. In the video, Beyonce and Jay-Z stood in front of a portrait of Meghan, looking very royal. The portrait was in a classic regal style, similar to ones that have been done of Queen Elizabeth II.

The simple concept of the video had maximum effect. People all over the world were talking about it. Meghan herself even appreciated the call-out. Daniel Martin, Meghan’s longtime makeup artist, revealed in the CBS special, Meghan and Harry Plus One, that he sent Meghan a screengrab of the famous couple standing in front of her portrait. What was Meghan’s response? She sent back a simple emoji- the big eye emoji.

Are Beyonce and Meghan Markle friends?

As far as we know, they’ve never met in real life. But, they came close, if Meghan would have been able to attend Serena’s wedding. Many fans think it’s time for the pair to meet. They clearly admire each other, and they share the same interests. If they were to finally sit down, we think they’d hit it off right away, and probably become fast friends. Fans will just have to wait until that day can finally happen. Hopefully, we don’t have to wait too long.
