Britain’s most-haunted house where children were locked up finally sells

Having been on the market for 12 years, the owner of Britain’s most-haunted house my have worried that the property would never sell.

Luckily for owner Vanessa Mitchell the two-bedroom cottage has finally sold for a tidy £240,000.

Vanessa has owned the home, named The Cage, since 2004 and has frequently reported witnessing paranormal goings-on.

The house was used to hold prisoners who had been accused of witchcraft in the 16th Century – a fact which fuels the belief that it is haunted.

Vanessa was driven to move out of the house in 2008 after claiming she was physically attacked by spirits, had been pushed over when pregnant and had witnessed mysterious blood splatters appear.

She also claims to have seen a satanic goat and fled the house just four years after moving in.

Now, , which is located in St Osyth, Essex has finally been taken off her hands for £240,000.

St Osyth is a coastal village near Clacton-On-Sea,with a population which hovers around the 4,000 mark, and also features one of Britain's only naturist beaches, where beach-lovers can sunbathe or swim in the nude.

The estate agents, Home Domus, said that the home had been sold subject to contract.

Florent Lambert, director of the firm, said: "Vanessa did try to sell The Cage numerous times since 2008 and with a number of different estate agents.

"Most agents advised her to sell at auction at ridiculous prices or were not at all interested as they predicted it could not be sold.”

She added: ”I took it as a challenge and a mission to find the way to best sell it."

Men, women and children were all detained at the property until as late as 1908 including Ursula Kemp who was hanged for witchcraft in 1582.

The cottage is adorned with a plaque in Ursula’s honour.
