Celeb colorist not impressed by Ben Affleck’s apparent hair dye job

It looks like Ben Affleck has ditched his salt-and-pepper look — and a top celebrity colorist is not impressed.

After the 47-year-old was photographed this week sporting an apparent darker hair and beard color, colorist Michael Canalé — who counts Jennifer Aniston, Penelope Cruz and Cameron Diaz as clients — told us the apparent new hue doesn’t look “natural.”

“It ages him a little bit, it’s a little too dark along with the beard and it looks unnatural,” Canalé, who doesn’t work with Affleck, wrote in an email to Page Six Style. “A professional colorist wouldn’t have made it so matte.”

Affleck — who usually has gray sprinkled throughout his hair — was photographed walking around Los Angeles with the apparent new look.

“He could have eased out 20-50 percent of the gray that would have knocked 10 years off his age,” Canalé continued with a suggestion for the star. “Under certain lighting, especially in film the semi-permanent won’t alternate the natural base color. He would have been better off using a semi-permanent to avoid flashing warm tones or what they call ‘golfer’s red.’”

Affleck’s rep didn’t immediately respond to our request for comment.

Affleck is currently enjoying lockdown with his 32-year-old girlfriend Ana de Armas, but it’s unclear if she’s the one who is responsible for the Oscar winner’s apparent dye job or if it’s for an upcoming role.

The couple met on the set of their film “Deep Water” last fall. Since then the lovebirds have enjoyed jaunts to de Armas’ hometown of Havana and Costa Rica. They have also been endlessly photographed grabbing cups of coffee and walking the “Knives Out” star’s pooch around the neighborhood.

Last month the pair made the relationship Instagram official by posting a series of photos of them celebrating her 32nd birthday. And things seem to be serious between them as they were snapped boarding a private jet with two of Affleck’s three kids for a family vacation.
