Cheap Rugs 2019 | The Sun UK

One of the easiest ways of updating your home is with a rug, whether it’s colourful, textured or heavily patterned.

But if you’re finding the prices a little bit steep then have a look at our selection of cheap rugs.

We’ve got a range of designs, from geometric to sparkly, oriental to plain for you to look at, but before you buy, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First, decide if you want your rug to cover a large area or have space around it.

It’s worth taping out the size on your floor first to double check you’re happy with the measurements – there’s nothing worse than buying a rug only to find it’s too small.

If it’s for an area with heavy traffic, like a hallway or landing, or underneath a dining table where food could be dropped, opt for a low-pile design so that it’s easier to clean.

You also might want to invest in some rug grippers, to stop it from bunching up or sliding around if it’s going to be walked over.

A big trend that we’ve seen in the last year is for outdoor rugs and many of these can be used both inside and out, so do check before you buy if you think you might want to use it outdoors.

With all of that in mind, it’s time to get cracking.

We’ve started you off with six of the best designs on the market – there’s something for everyone, no matter what your taste or budget.

1. Natural Selection

With bohemian interiors such a big trend, it’s no surprise that natural materials are on the up, including, of course, jute.

This braided design is handcrafted and the circular shape helps add interest to an angular space.

Measuring 120cm in diameter, we think this is a great buy for just £36 – well done La Redoute!

  • Aftas Round Jute rug, £36, La Redoute – buy here

2. Feeling Blue

It’s not easy to find a large rug for under £100 these days, but Wayfair is still killing it price-wise.

This design is ideal if you’re looking for an oriental-style rug, and the dark blue colourway is bang on trend.

Team with copper accessories and a plush velvet sofa for a look that’s high on luxe.

  • Well Woven Amba Blue Area rug, £64.99 for a 160 x 220cm design, Wayfair – buy here

3. All Weather

Looking for a truly versatile design? Then this is the rug for you, as it can be used both inside and out.

Made from a durable, stain-resistant yarn, it’s ideal for busy families and the geometric design adds a modern touch.

  • Patio Diamond rug, £29 for a 120 x 170cm design, Dunelm – buy here

4. Think Pink

Hard floors can be, well, hard, so if you want to step on something soft and snuggly, then we’d suggest this plush design from Matalan.

Some will love the fine sparkle polyester yarn running through it, which gives it a bit of shimmer.

And it comes in small, medium or large, to accommodate any size room.

  • Harlow rug, from £25 for a small design, Matalan – buy here

5. Dreamy Green

Bring the outdoors in with some greens in your living or dining space.

This dense, thick-pile rug comes in a beautiful soft shade of sage, which would work well with either a neutral interior, fresh white, or other greens and blush pinks.

  • Stenlille rug, £60 for a 170 x 240cm design, Ikea – buy here

6. Speckled Style

If you’ve loved the Terrazzo trend that’s popped up this year, then why not treat yourself to a rug of the same design?

Colour-fast, fade-resistant and a good size for the price, we think this one’s a winner.

Plus, it’ll look just as good in a child’s room as it will an adult space.

  • Creation Splash rug, £53 for a 120 x 170cm design, Argos – buy here
