Covid has made my hair fall out – I'm distraught and feel ugly
DEAR DEIDRE: COVID is making my hair fall out. I’m distraught and feel ugly.
Last autumn I caught Covid and was very ill for a couple of weeks.
It took a long time to recover but I thought I’d put it behind me.
Then, in January, my hair started coming out in clumps in the shower.
Every time I brush my hair now I lose more. It’s becoming noticeably thin at the top of my head.
I am a 64-year-old woman and my hair has always been my crowning glory.
Losing it is really depressing me and I won’t go out now without wearing a hat.

I feel so unattractive and old and I’m worried I will soon have proper bald patches.
My husband tells me not to worry but I’m scared it will never grow back. What can I do?
DEIDRE SAYS: Hair loss after Covid is common, with up to a quarter of patients suffering from it.
It is caused by the stress on your body and can also happen after we suffer high fevers or other illnesses.
Distressing though this is, your hair will almost certainly grow back. Please talk to your GP about it.
