Appearing on the ITV show today, Barry, who arrived with tissue stuck between his shirt and neck after being rushed into makeup, discussed his ‘very good memory’ ahead of his tour.

He then went on to add to Dermot: ‘And incidentally I want to congratulate you by the way, seriously, on your courage.’

Alison burst out laughing as he continued: ‘Last year, no, no, when he came out and told us about his sexuality. Because I think a lot of people respected you for that.’

A laughing Dermot replied: ‘Thank you. I’ll pass that on to the gentleman who’s here from Monday to Thursday…

‘Don’t worry, your memory is crystal clear. Thank you for your kind comments,’ he added after the comic said: ‘Sorry, have I…’

In 2019, Barry’s name was stripped from the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s ‘Barry Award’, due to comments he made likening transgenderism to a ‘fashion’ in an interview with The Spectator in 2018.

‘How many different kinds of lavatory can you have? And it’s pretty evil when it’s preached to children by crazy teachers,’ Barry controversially told the magazine at the time.
