Gwyneth Paltrow’s wildest moments as she turns 50 from viral vagina candle to £14k sex toy

She may have shot to fame thanks to her roles in films such as Iron Man and Shakespeare in Love, but away from the big screenGwyneth Paltrow has made a splash in the world of wellness.

After setting up her lifestyle brand Goop back in 2008, the health guru hasn’t been afraid of causing controversy when it comes to her alternative routines and products and has popularised many weird and wonderful wellness trends in her time.

Most recently, in celebration of her 50th birthday earlier this week, the actress painted half her naked body in gold – and it caused quite a stir on social media.

So, as the mum-of-two marks turning 50 in true Goop style, let’s take a peek at Gwyneth Paltrow’s wildest moments…

£14,000 sex toy

In the Sex Issue of Goop, Gwyneth encouraged her readers to think about their own pleasure and recommended a series of sex toys.

Among her recommendations, the wellness guru highlighted a 24k-karat gold toy with a whopping £14,000 price tag.

However, if that proved a little on the expensive side, readers were able to opt for a stainless steel version… that would still break the bank at almost half the price.

Healing stickers

Costing £85 a packet, the Body Vibes stickers were sold as being able to hydrate, detox, boost mood, and improve sleep.

Goop also claimed that the products were made from the same “conductive carbon material” used by NASA when making their spacesuits, though these claims were quickly shut down by the space station.

Vagina candle

Perhaps one of the most famous products created by Goop is its‘This Smells Like My Vagina’ candle.

Coming in at £58, when the product was first released, it’s clear that customers were more than intrigued as it quickly sold out.

The fragrance? According to Gwyneth, the candle features a “funny, gorgeous, sexy, and beautifully unexpected scent”.

Following its release, Goop launched a new candle called This Smells Like My Orgasm. For just £75, shoppers were able to purchase a fragrant candle that’s scent is described as “sexy, surprising, and wildly addictive.”

Jade vagina eggs

Back in 2017, Goop released an egg-shaped piece of jade which it claimed could fix everything from people’s hormone levels to their bladder control simply by inserting it into their vaginas.

However, gynaecologists were quick to speak out against the claims and Goop was subsequently fined £134,000 for making “unsubstantiated marketing claims”.

Climate neutral beds

All in the name of a good night's sleep, the Hollywood icon teamed up with brand Avocado to sell beds for £45,000.

Promoting the item on her website, she wrote: “We applied incredibly luxurious, ethically sourced GOTS-certified organic materials to a need that’s as essential as food, air, and water: sleep.

“Rest assured, this is the trip to the moon of beds. Its custom support is the result of unparalleled craftsmanship, made using a circular manufacturing process that’s as good for us as it is for the planet.

“So if it’s an out-of-this-world experience on a climate-neutral bespoke bed you’re after, this is it. And yes, we know. It’s ridiculous – but awesome.”
