Holby City spoilers: Jo Martin joins as brilliant surgeon with connection to Ric
Jo Martin has joined the cast of Holby City as Max McGerry, a brilliant surgeon with a connection to Ric Griffin (Hugh Quarshie).
The consultant neurosurgeon will arrive at Holby initially to see a patient, but she ends up staying longer than she means to.
Her sterling reputation catches Ric’s attention and he asks her to stick around.
Max eventually ends up assisting Ric with something incredibly important, but there is also a lot of risk involved.
Her storyline is set to address pressing topical questions about the future of the NHS as she juggles are demanding and excellent career with her turbulent personal life.
Fans will know that Holby neurosurgeons are traditionally doomed and tragic characters – will Max fare better than her predecessors Guy Self, John Gaskell and Roxanna Macmillian?
The actress is already on the Holby set and has begun filming her first scenes as Max, which air on BBC One in the Autumn.
Jo said of her character: ‘I am thrilled to be joining such an amazing show, which I have been a fan of for years. Playing Max will be a pleasure; she is very complex with no filter.’
She has previously appeared in Fleabag, Back To Life, The Long Song and Silent Witness.
Simon Harper, Executive Producer of Holby City and Casualty, said: ‘Jo is a fabulous addition to the Holby gang, both a hugely talented dramatic actor and comedian.
‘She’s been on our admiring radar for some time while we thought up the right part for her. Max is a brilliant, multi-faceted character worthy of her gifts: wry, funny, passionately driven and with no patience whatsoever for political correctness, or “snowflakes” as she calls them. So Holby’s staff had better watch out.’
