I won lottery jackpot thanks to my love of a certain kind of puzzle – I thought I’d only won $500 when I first checked | The Sun

A WOMAN’S love of crossword puzzles has won her a bumper lottery payout.

Tiffany Griffin hit the jackpot with a crossword themed scratch card game bought for just $5.

At first the 42-year-old thought she had won just $500 in the North Carolina Education Lottery.

But then her boyfriend told her to look more carefully.

When she reviewed the ticket again she saw new letters she hadn’t scratched off, Fox News reports.

"I’ve always loved doing crossword puzzles," Griffin told the NC Education Lottery.

"The crossword scratch-offs are the only ones I buy.

"I have never experienced anything like that before. I had to take a second to breathe."

Griffin collected her winnings last week, taking home $106,516 after state and federal tax.

She plans to use her prize money and do some home repairs, she told NC Education Lottery.

The Cashword Multiplier game was first introduced in August and has six top prizes of $150,000 each.

It comes after a San Diego man has become a millionaire after playing a $10 scratch card.

The winner, Guillermo Cuevas, initially bought a $10 scratcher and used those winnings to play the Winter Bucks Scratchers.

He bought the winning scratcher at Newport Liquor on Beyer Boulevard in San Diego.

Winning the $1million prize is actually quite impressive as the odds are over one in two million.

Mr Cuevas told the California Lottery: “I’ve played California Lottery games since the very beginning. I still remember purchasing $1 tickets in 1985.”

“The amazing part of this story is that I bought the winning ticket with the prize from another ticket I bought earlier that day."

Meanwhile one winner has made 500 times her cash back while playing the Florida lottery.
