Meghan Markle is thought to be using her A-List pal Oprah Winfrey's go-to event planner for her birthday this week.

The Duchess of Sussex turns 40 on August 4, and has big plans for the milestone birthday, as sources reveal the star, and husband Prince Harry, 36, are going all out for the bash.

Mum-of-two Meghan has apparently had her eyes set on acclaimed party planner Colin Cowie to organise the celebrations for some time, after he was recommended by talk show host Oprah.

The party, which will take place at Meghan and Harry ’s £11million mansion in Santa Barbara, California, is thought to be a low-key event in comparison to previous parties.

However, low-key can mean anything when it comes to Hollywood, and Meghan's last 'proper' bash – son Archie's baby shower back in February 2019 – was a lavish two-day celebration planned and attended by all of her celebrity friends.

However, the former Suits actress' interest in Colin Cowie has signalled that this will undoubtedly be a party to remember.

The Hollywood party planner has been in the industry a long time, with legendary parties for the likes of the Kardashians, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston and even Tom Cruise all in his portfolio.

According to The Mirror, a source revealed: “Meghan wants a small gathering. About 65 people are invited, her closest friends and family."

Whilst a party with 65 attendees wouldn't be considered small in most contexts, for the royal pair, this is considered more of a low-key shindig.

Luckily for Meghan, California currently have no restrictions in relation to COVID-19, therefore the party won't be breaking any rules.

The source added that: "Colin was recommended to her by Oprah who always puts on fabulous parties.”

As well as Cowie's input for the bash, it's thought that Harry has ordered a cake from local baker Posies & Sugar.

On the day, guests will enjoy a selection of different snacks and small meals from grazing tables, made solely from locally sourced foods.

Meghan looks to be supporting local produce as the party is also thought to only be serving wines from neighbouring vineyards.

According to his website, Colin Cowie’s mantra is: “The equation for the gold standard of service isn’t 1+1=2. It’s 1+1=3.

"What can you do to stay ahead of the curve?”

In 2018 he was voted Vogue’s No1 wedding planner and caterer in the north-east of the United States.

Meghan and Harry have been enjoying a life free from their duties as senior royals over in Los Angeles, after they stepped back from their titles in order to pursue a “more peaceful life”.

However, they have continued to keep a public profile and stayed in the limelight, and back in March this year took part in a bombshell TV interview with Oprah.

Meghan didn't hold back in her sit down chat with Oprah but her allegations may have "burnt bridges" at a time when healing may have been a better option, claim royal experts.

Speaking on the Channel 5 programme, royal author Tom Quinn stated: "I think the problem for Meghan was that she was angry, she was upset.

“I think that she thought when she entered the Royal Family she could shake them up and they would love it, she would do things Meghan’s way."
