Meeting Rio and becoming step mum
Not long after the split Kate met Rio during a trip to Dubai. When things became serious she came to the decision to quit TOWIE.
She explained her reasoning, "I had two choices. I'm in this world with lots of drama and then I met Rio and the children and, I thought, 'I'm with these kids, who have lost their mum, they don't need a woman who is out all the time. They need someone at home with them."
Kate embraced her role as step mum to Lorenz, 15, Tate, 13, and 10 year old Tia, who lost their mum Rebecca to cancer. “I fell in love with Rio, then I met the kids and fell in love with them.”
They opened up on their family life in BBC documentary Rio and Kate: Becoming a Step Family, where Kate wrote letters to Rebecca. One line read, "I hope I'm doing a good job of looking after them [the children] for you. It's a bloody hard job but I wouldn't have it any other way."
The children have been a big part of their relationship, with all three children witnessing their engagement in Abu Dhabi in 2018. While Tia was Maid of Honour at their Turkey wedding the following year, while his sons walked her down the aisle.
Opening up about anxiety
While Kate appeared to have it all together, on a New Year's Day post in 2019, she shared with her followers some of her internal struggles. "Anyone that knows me well knows I suffer with bad anxiety & really struggle to love myself. Most days are a battle with what's going on in my head. I've sort of kept this off social media as I've been to scared too share it, and the less I shared the more distant Instagram is from my daily life … that’s going to change this year.
"This year I will not let society’s views on who I should be and what I should look like effect me. I have been so busy making sure everyone else if ok that I have forgot about looking after myself properly …. This year I am working on me; mind, body, soul. #selflove

She wrote on Instagram, "Don’t get me wrong I am blessed to live the life I do; a husband, 4 beautiful kids, 2 dogs (1 that’s still protesting because of baby!!) … some moments I’m feeling amazing and full of love, but I’m too often left feeling low, like I can’t escape. I’m not sure if this is the after effects of a emergency c section, or the stress of another lockdown – maybe it’s even a mix of both.
"I feel so lucky to have just welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world, some people never get to experience this amazing feeling, but my emotions and anxiety are at an all time high … all my coping mechanisms I’ve learnt over the years to keep my anxiety at bay I can’t utilise. A workout, a long walk, some alone time. Everything passes, and I know too this soon shall pass, I’m just in it right now."
Kate has upheld her promise to work on self love, and shared a beautiful bare-faced selfie showing her melasma.

"I always feel so insecure about it & it really does get me down, I try to cover it at all costs. For much of my life I’ve felt like I have to try my best to be perfect, I’m fed up of having crazy unrealistic expectations all of the time.
"Although I make it hard for myself sometimes I’m trying my best to love myself as I am."
What is Melsama?
Melasma is a skin condition that many adults experience, in which brown or blue-gray patches or freckle-like spots develop. It occurs due to overproduction of the cells that make the colour of your skin. Up to 50% of women can experience it during pregnancy. It is harmless to physical health, and the skin fortunately doesn't become itchy or painful.
