Keep kids busy indoors for less money this half term with our cash-saving tips — plus win £15,000 on the Sun Savers Raffle

ENTERTAINING the children at home during half-term can play havoc with your finances.

But you can keep the kids happy indoors without it costing a packet.

These are top tips from some of the savviest money-saving bloggers.

  1. The art of saving. Collette Jones from says: “ has loads of free guides on what to make with your kids over half-term, including writing letters on unicorn-shaped note paper.
“They also host free workshops in their stores, so keep an eye out for these this month.”
  2. Home cinema. Francesca Mason, who blogs at, says: “Host an indoor cinema in your home by borrowing a DVD off a friend or pick one up cheaply from a car boot sale or charity shop. The kids can even make their own cinema tickets — a fun, frugal activity!”
  3. Cut-price picnic. Leta Elliott, from, says: “Don’t wait for summer to have a picnic. Build a den indoors, grab some cuddly toys and have a carpet picnic.
“You could even decorate, make invitations and draw pretty menus. Get the children involved in planning, shopping for and preparing the food, too.”
  4. Science special. Collette also has this clever tip: “Technology firm Dyson has exciting free challenges for your kids to tackle at home.
“These involve lots of fun science tasks, including floating ping pong balls, tornado bottles and balloon kebabs. Check out all of the cool activities at”
  5. Box clever. Emma Drew from says: “Get creative with everyday household items that you would usually throw away.
“That big cardboard box could be a rocket or car for a child. You can also use empty bottles, loo rolls and so much more for a craft session.”
