Martin Lewis explained on his show tonight that supermarket customers can make huge savings on their Christmas shop. With Christmas just months away and typically being one of the most expensive occasions in terms of food and gifting, savvy shoppers will be happy to learn that there are huge savings to be made in supermarkets like Tesco this year.

Tesco currently has a Clubcard Saver scheme which helps customers make huge savings in the lead up to Christmas.

With the scheme ending on October 20, Martin Lewis urges savvy shoppers to sign up to the scheme.

He said: “A trick for you…how to get a six percent boost on your Tesco Christmas shopping.

“Here’s how it works – they have a Christmas savings scheme and they want you to save all year round and you can only spend on it in Tesco.

“But you don’t need to – as long as you’ve got money in by next Tuesday, they will give you a six percent boost in November.

“So if you know what you’re going to spend in Tesco in the coming months, well, go and put your money in now and you get six percent on top.”

Martin explained if customers add £200 to their account, they will receive a free £12 to spend on their shop.

He added: “There are similar schemes as Asda, Co-op, Iceland and Morrisons but this is the one that’s got the deadline now.”

The idea behind the scheme according to Tesco is to “make your Christmas a little easier”.

On their website it states: “Simply sign in to your Clubcard account and opt into the Christmas Saver scheme from the ‘Voucher scheme’ page. We’ll start saving your vouchers instantly.

“Use your vouchers to save on your shopping with us or make even bigger savings with hundreds of our Reward Partners.

“Carry on collecting points as you spend as normal. We’ll keep your Clubcard vouchers until November 2020, but you will continue receiving statements throughout the year so you can keep track of your savings.

“If you want to save more, simply head in-store and top up your Christmas Saver account with your own money at the checkout or customer service desk, from as little as £1.

“You’ll earn a bonus voucher once you’ve topped up a minimum of £23, making your Christmas savings go even further.”

However when heading into a Tesco store, there are new guidelines that customers must adhere to.

Tesco recently introduced a traffic light system outside some of its stores to help manage how many customers are in the supermarket at any one time.

In a statement on their website, Tesco said: “A statement on Tesco website says: “To make sure we’re doing everything possible to reduce the risk of infection for our customers and colleagues, we’ll be introducing new social distancing measures in our stores soon.

“So over the coming weeks, you’ll also start to see a simple ‘traffic light’ system at the entrances of some of our larger stores, to help us manage the flow in and out.”

Aldi was one of the first supermarkets to bring in the system.

The supermarket also recently introduced buying restrictions across essential items in-store including three to four units of dried pasta, flour, toilet roll, baby wipes and anti-bacterial wipes.
