This also isn’t the first event of the queen’s that Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry have decided to skip. And many people are now starting to think the couple is trying to avoid the queen and her festive events.

For the queen, Christmas is not just a day of celebration. Instead, it is a week-long event that she spends with her family and staff.
A week before Christmas, the queen will throw a party for all of her staff members as a way to show her appreciation for all of their hard work. The next day, she has a pre-Christmas family luncheon that every member of the royal family is expected to attend.
This year, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have decided to take a six-week vacation, which spans over the holiday season to spend some much-needed family time with their son Archie. During this time, they have traveled to a secret location in order to spend Christmas with Markle’s mother and will not be able to make it to any of the queen’s festive events this year.
Some fans were hoping Prince Harry may make an appearance at the family luncheon this year, but both he and Duchess Meghan were noticeably absent from the event this year.
This isn’t the first time that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have missed one of the queen’s events
Fans of the royal family are starting to get used to Markle and Harry not attending his grandmother’s events like they used to.
This past summer, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also skipped visiting the queen at her Scottish castle. It is customary for members of the royal family to visit Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip at their castle in Scotland.
During the summer, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and there three kids were spotted in Scotland visiting with the matriarch and patriarch of the family. However, Prince Harry and his family were never able to make the trip to Scotland.
Some reports and royal insiders defended the Sussexes, citing Baby Archie is too young to travel. But critics noted that Archie’s young age didn’t stop the family from jet-setting around the globe.

The Queen, accompanied by The Prince of Wales, opened a new session of Parliament this morning, in a ceremony known as the State Opening of Parliament. The State Opening brings together all three parts of Parliament: the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and the Monarch. Before either House can proceed to public business, The Queen officially opens Parliament by addressing both Houses in The Queen’s Speech. The #QueensSpeech is drafted by the Government and outlines future plans and legislation for the year ahead.
According to Elle, Prince Harry and Markle had talked with the queen weeks ago and she was aware that the couple would be unable to attend the family’s Christmas events this year and she was reportedly very understanding about the situation.
A spokesperson for the royal family had said in a statement : “Having spent the last two Christmas’s at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland. This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.”
It was reported that the queen was also not upset about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex not visiting her in Scotland over the summer. During the entire month of August, Markle and Prince Harry were busy working and the queen understood that they simply did not have time to schedule a visit at that time.
