Mum has no savings as she spends £40k a year on kids’ Gucci clothes and gifts

A mum who splashes out £40,000 a year on her two kids admitted to having no savings.

Laura McNaughton, from Fife, Scotland, forks out a fortune on clothes.

She doesn’t let her girls Darci, 12, and Merci, 18 months, wear the same outfits twice.

And given that the 33-year-old civil servant is partial to shopping at Gucci, this can be an expensive habit.

Laura gives her eldest child £20 in pocket money every week – and stumps up for her £100 monthly phone bill too.

While some may criticise the mum-of-two for not saving for the future, she doesn’t worry about spending her pay check each month.

Laura told Fabulous : “I never slip on rent on my two-bed home in Fife, Scotland, and always make sure the water, electricity and internet bills are paid on time, having set up direct debits so the money comes out automatically.

“After that I ensure there’s food in – so my two never starve.

“But any cash I have spare after that doesn’t go into savings.”

The single mum splurges £2,000 on her daughters every Christmas and on their birthdays.

She also gives them treats throughout the year.

Darci has the latest iPhone and spends her £20-a-week pocket money on after school McDonald’s trips.

She gets £300-worth of clothes a month and pricey gifts like a £250 Gucci belt.

Meanwhile, toddler Merci is given the same amount of treats.

Even though she grows out of clothes quickly, Laura buys her £150-a-piece cardigans from Russia.

The tot also wears fur clothes and accessories that have been important from abroad.

The investment could be well worth it for Laura.

Both of her girls are on the way to becoming social media influencers.

Darci, 12, has racked up thousands of views on TikTok.

Meanwhile, baby Merci has 12,800 Instagram followers and is often sent free clothes from companies.

Even though her daughters are treated to the best things in life, Laura doesn’t think they’re “spoilt”.

She says the gifts are signs of her affection – and refuses to let critics hold her back.

The mum added: “To those who criticise? I say mind your own business.

“There are people out there who spend money on cigarettes on alcohol – the fact I spend mine on my kids just shows how much I love them.”
