Prince Charles, 72, was all smiles as he stepped out in Scotland on Thursday. The future king looked to be in high spirits as dressed in a kilt he carried out several visits in Thurso, Scotland.

Clarence House shared photos of Charles meeting members of the public as he visited a beach clean-up and veterinary surgery in the town on Twitter.

One of the tweets read: “On Scrabster Beach in Thurso today, The Prince of Wales meets members of the Caithness Beach Clean Group.

Made up of dedicated volunteers, the group has carried out over 3,500 beach cleans so far!”

A body language expert analysed pictures of the future king and claimed he seemed to have put “poignant thoughts behind him” on what would have been his wedding anniversary to his first wife Princess Diana.

Body language expert and author Judi James told Express.co.uk: “On what would have been his 40th wedding anniversary, Charles appears to manage to put any more poignant thoughts behind him to appear looking hugely cheery and animated, clad in a kilt as he paid some royal visits in Scotland.”

The future king often looks his best in a kilt, Judi claimed.

She added: “Charles often looks at his happiest and most relaxed dressed in tartan and he wears his kilt with confidence here.”

Charles is a keen environmental campaigner and animal-lover and appeared to be in his element during Thursday’s outing.

She added: “His crinkled grin suggests some very upbeat and fun conversations with the people he is meeting and, presumably set for a visit to his mother in Balmoral, he appears to be in fine form.”

Memories of Princess Diana’s wedding have re-emerged in the wake of her niece Lady Kitty Spencer’s nuptials at the weekend and brought up poignant memories for some royal fans, Judi said.

She added: “The photos of his wedding to Diana in these days after Kitty Spencer’s own stunning nuptials have prompted some very sad memories for fans of the Princess.

“Charles appears to have upped his workload and profile over the past few days though, presumably keeping as busy as possible while trading comments and jokes at the various sites he has been visiting.”

The Queen has been at Balmoral in Scotland since last week and is likely to remain there until autumn.

Charles will most likely visit his mother in Aberdeenshire this weekend.

The Queen usually has Royal Family members to stay throughout her summer break.

The Cambridges and royal favourites Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Prince Edward are all likely to travel to Scotland at some point this summer.

This year will be particularly poignant for the Queen as it is the first time she will have been there since Prince Philip’s death.

Balmoral is said to be where she feels most at home as it is one of the few places she can truly relax outside the royal limelight.
