TikTok user shares how to create the perfect hair bun using a McDonald’s milkshake lid

If you’re looking for weird and wonderful hair hacks, TikTok is the place to go. From dressing gown curls to rice water hair masks, the beauty world has been going mad for cheap and easy ways to keep lengths looking luscious at home.

And just when you thought TikTok couldn’t get any more bizarre, one beauty fan caught our attention this week when she styled her hair using a milkshake lid from McDonald's – and the results are surprisingly impressive.

Posting to her TikTok account, social media influencer Quinty Mirjam shared the clever hack with her 587.8K followers, where she uses a plastic milkshake lid to achieve the perfect half bun (or hun).

“Mcdonalds hair hack,” Quinty captioned the video.

The beauty fan starts by scraping the top layer of her hair back, and securing with a bobble, leaving two strands out at the front.

She then places the milkshake lid over her ponytail, pulling her hair through the hole at the top.

Quinty then covers the fast food chain’s lid with her hair to imitate the effect of a “hair doughnut”, a product used to create the perfect bun.

Securing the bun with another bobble, the TikTok star then tidies up the look, covering any signs of the lid with the remaining hair and using bobby pins to keep the hairstyle in place.

She shows off her finished results with fans, who appear amazed at the genius and weird hack.

“Great hair,” one fan said, “gotta try this.”

“So creative,” another wrote.

Some TikTok viewers disagreed, with one commenting “just use a hair donut lol.”

“It’s cute but I’m sorry I’m not putting a cup lid in my hair,” another said.

The bizarre hair hack raked in over 50K likes on TikTok.
