Valentine's Day flowers delivered damaged or late? Your right to a refund explained
VALENTINE’S Day flowers aren’t always cheap, so it’s understandably disappointing if the beautiful bouquet you ordered for your loved one has arrived damaged.
It’s even worse if the flowers you ordered don’t turn up at all, ruining your romantic gesture entirely.
What happens if my Valentine's flowers arrive damaged?
If your flowers are already wilting, or have browning petals and leaves, you might be entitled to a refund.
This also applies if they arrived crushed, damaged, or don't match the description online.
According to consumer group Which? your complaint should be covered under the Consumer Rights Act and must be made directly to the florist.
Your refund should include the initial cost of the flowers, as well as any delivery charges.
To start the process, you need to take a picture of your flowers to support your complaint – this goes for whether you're the sender, or receiver.
Then provide the florist with as much information about your order as possible, include any order numbers and the delivery address.
What happens if my Valentine's bouquet is missing flowers?
You should be entitled to a partial refund, which will be calculated based on how many flowers are missing.
So for example, say you were expecting 20 flowers and only 14 arrive.
If you paid £20 for this bouquet, you should expect a refund of around £6 of your total order.
Providing the flowers arrived when they should have, this likely won't include any delivery costs.
Again, you would need to contact the florist direct with photographic evidence to back up your claim.
What happens if my Valentine's flowers arrive late?
Your rights to a refund all depend on if you paid for an exact delivery date.
If you paid for "estimated delivery" then retailers usually have a maximum of 30 days from when your order is placed to deliver your goods.
But if you paid for a specific date, then it is up to them to guarantee that your order arrives at this time.
So for example, if you paid for next day delivery, or guaranteed delivery on Valentine's Day, then the retailer must follow through with this part of the sale.
If they don't, and your flowers fail to arrive on the delivery date you paid for, then you should be entitled to a full refund.
You'll need to complain to the florist, providing as much evidence as possible including order numbers and delivery addresses.
