What happens to Love Island phones after the villa? How Islanders arent shown selfies

Love Island contestants have their mobile phones taken off them as soon as they jet off to Mallorca, but they receive a special phone to use during their time in the villa.

The devices are mainly used for producers to contact Islanders, and are set up so that they cannot contact anyone in the outside world or browse the internet.

They can also text each other but many simply use their villa phones to snap selfies and take fun videos. However, it's now been revealed that many don't get to see their pictures after the show is finished as they don't get to keep their smartphones.

Former contestants Anna Vakili and Amber Gill, who both starred on the ITV2 dating show in 2019, have opened up about what goes on behind the scenes on Love Island, including what happens to the villa phones.

Anna, 31, and Amber, 24, took part in a Q&A session for Closer magazine, and were asked whether they got to keep the photos they had taken on their phones during their time on the show.

Anna quickly responded: "We didn't get to keep any of the photos that we took," but then Amber, who won the 2019 series with Greg O'Shea, added that she did get to keep her photographs.

"I actually got a lot of the photos that we took. Because I got my Samsung phone after I finished. It was part of my, like I got loads of gifts as like a 'winner pack', and I got one of the phones. It had the pictures we took," Amber revealed.

Fellow former Islander Zara McDermott has also revealed more about the phones, as her boyfriend Sam Thompson recently asked her about the texts that contestants receive from producers.

Producers regularly contact the Islanders, usually when there's a challenge or recoupling on the cards, and they always shout "I've got a text!" before reading it out loud.

Speaking to Zara, who starred on the show back in 2018, Sam, 29, asked: "Are you told you have to say, 'I've got a text!' because everybody says it, or is it just the done thing?"

Zara, 25, replied: "Just the done thing." Sam followed up with a second question, saying: "Do you know that you're about to get a text because they've all got phones in their hands? They're not just holding them all day."

Grinning, Zara responded: "Well I think you just answered the question," to which Sam replied: "So you do get told? Do they go, 'Guys, sit on that bed, you're going to get a text?'"

Zara clarified: "No, but they would be like, 'Maybe you should all have your phones near you'."
