Toby Alexander Smith has played the abusive Gray Atkins on EastEnders since arriving with his onscreen wife Chantelle, played by Jessica Plummer, in March 2019.
The actor, who has also appeared alongside Anna Paquin in TV series Flack, has filmed difficult scenes with Jessica over the past year for their long-running harrowing storyline about domestic abuse.
Gray has regularly terrorised his wife onscreen both mentally and physically, and the 30 year old actor has been working closely with charity Women's Aid to provide a realistic account of the type of abuse people experience .

"Holy god! Where’s that been hiding?" gushed one impressed fan, as another added, "Ohhh My God ‼️ I'm speechless‼️"
More soap fans filled up his comments with flame emojis and love heart eye emojis along with: "Good lord!"
As well as his chiselled body, Toby also has a hidden talent for singing, showing off his impressive vocals during an evening of entertainment earlier this year performing alongside Lee Mead.

Playing character Gray, alongside his onscreen wife Chantelle, played by Jessica Plummer, has clearly impacted the actor and he was even set to take part in the London Marathon in honour of charity Women's Aid before it was postponed until October this year due to coronavirus.
Jessica recently told Inside Soap about what it's like acting alongside her co-star: "Toby is such a sweetheart, it's lovely working with him. He's so kind and easy to be with, and the majority of the scenes I shoot are with him.
"I prayed that I would get along with my on-screen husband and I really do," Jessica added.
