Brandon Marshall goes on extremely passionate, extremely wrong NBA rant

Brandon Marshall apparently doesn’t know how NBA contracts work.

On the latest “I Am Athlete” show, in which Marshall serves as a host alongside fellow former NFL stars Chad Johnson, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder, the group discussed differences in contract construction between NBA and NFL players. The episode took a fiery turn when Marshall stood up and argued, wrongly, that “not everybody on an NBA roster has guaranteed contacts. Marshall’s co-hosts attempted to challenge him, but couldn’t get a word in over his high-volume rant.

NBA veteran Jared Dudley took on the task of educating the former Jets wide receiver after the rant went viral.

Dudley was one of a few NBA players who took to social media to inform Marshall that he was incorrect.

“This man can’t be serious??? 95% of players have guaranteed contracts,” Dudley tweeted on Tuesday, explaining that “sometimes 1 person per roster will sign a partial with a later date to either being cut or signed for the remainder of the season.. Only top Elite QBs have similar NBA deals.”

NFL contracts can often be misleading, depending on how much money is guaranteed for the player. Often, a headline-inducing deal will only end up paying the player a portion of what they could earn.

The NBA is not that way, however, despite Marshall’s protestations.

“There’s four guys on an NBA team that got guaranteed contracts and everybody else can be cut today and don’t got nothing,” Marshall screamed.

Fans and fellow NBA players, including DeAngelo Russell, chimed in and backed Dudley’s response on social media.

“This the platform you should be educating the world on!” adding that the two “can go up there together,” replied Russell, who returned to the Minnesota Timberwolves lineup Monday night after a 26-game absence due to a knee procedure.

Dudley agreed and sent him a laughing emoji in a followup tweet.
