Conor McGregor releases training footage showing lightning reactions as UFC coach calls him a 'stone-cold killer'

CONOR McGREGOR released sparring footage ahead of his UFC comeback – and his coach described him as 'a stone-cold killer'.

The Irishman marks his return on January 23, rematching Dustin Poirier – who he beat in 2014 – in a lightweight headliner.

Ahead of the fight, McGregor uploaded a brief video of his sparring on Instagram, training with Polish welterweight Mateusz Piskorz.

In the clip, the 32-year-old lands a short uppercut followed by a right hook to the body.

He then slips a jab, and counters with a sharp left hand showing off his trademark lightening reactions.

McGregor has been preparing for the fight in Portugal, joined by his team of coaches, nutritionists and sports physios.

He recently revealed that he is putting a huge emphasis on sparring in the last six weeks, completing the equivalent of 15 UFC title fights.

McGregor is gearing up for his first fight since the start of the year, when he knocked out Donald Cerrone, 37, in round one.

He had spent the summer in retirement, having grown frustrated on the sidelines amid the coronavirus pandemic.

But McGregor never stopped training, and despite the inactivity in the cage, striking trainer Owen Roddy described the southpaw as 'a stone-cold killer'.

Roddy told The Bash MMA: "Coming off the Cerrone camp, he was in great form.

"He's a killer. Honest to God just a stone-cold killer

"He was motivated, he was in a good place, and then he wanted to go on this run throughout the year, and then Covid messed it all up for everybody, but he didn’t stop training.

“He hasn’t stopped. He’s been very active, working all areas of mixed martial arts, and you can see that now.

"He’s in the best shape I’ve ever seen him in my entire life."
