Darts player goes wild after hitting nine-darter in front of tiny crowd

It was a far cry from Michael Smith versus Michael van Gerwen in the world final, but that didn’t stop Jerry Hendriks going wild as he hit a nine-dart finish.

The Dutch professional was in action at the modest Musketiers Darts Masters in Weert over the weekend. Hendriks reached the final, where he completed a perfect leg with two 180 visits before taking out 141.

Despite playing in front of what appeared to be a handful of spectators, officials and fellow players, Hendriks couldn’t contain himself, shouting in delight, jumping for joy and hugging what appeared to be his appeared his opponent.

In a video published on social media, Hendriks could then be seen holding his head and staring at the board as the moment sunk in. As he posted the clip on his own Instagram feed, the 34-year-old explained why it meant so much to him.

“I’ve missed so many official 9 darters in my life. Today it was time that it fell, what a wonderful feeling,” he wrote. “Gonna let this sink in.”

Fans were quick to congratulate Hendriks on the achievement. One said: “Way to go Jerry!” Another added: “Jerry on fire [flames emoji].”

A third posted: “Super. You had it in you anyway. Stay cool and it will work out, we'll see. Congratulations.”

Hendriks is best known to many darts fans for a hilarious interview following his defeat to Peter Wright at the PDC World Championship in 2017. After being soundly beaten by the two-time world champion, he told Sky Sports, with Wright stood next to him: “I felt like a fish on the stage, I don’t know how you call it in English.”

The brilliant analogy left presenter Dave Clark and pundit Wayne Mardle in hysterics as they reviewed the match.
